Canon S3

My sister works at Staples and can get me the S3 for $300 (reg. $400) PLUS a $50 mail-in rebate on it. Should I take advantage of the offer? From what I've seen, it's pretty good price for a pretty awesome camera.

:confused3

Absolutely!!! I paid $427 for mine back in May.

My S3 came in real handy this afternoon. My DH had laser eye surgery today and I took a few still photos while they did the first eye and when they moved to the second eye with a quick press of the video button I was taping the whole procedure. I've used the video button several times, it's a great feature and the zoom and IS is great. I have a Pentax dSLR also but when I'm in a situation where I think I might want the video I grab my S3.

In today's (12/17) Sunday newspaper, there is a Dell ad insert. Among the items offered is the Canon S3 IS. It is listed at $249. :cool1: The web site listed is www.dell.com/fsi, and the phone number listed is 800 757-1429.

I personally am not in the market for a new camera (I have the S2), but know many here are. I went online, however was only able to get the price of $399, less the current 10% offer, $39, for orders over $200, plus free S&H. :badpc:

I went to the online chat with Dell rep, she was not the most helpful, suggested I call the phone number.

That is as far as I went with it, but posting here if any want to pursue it for themselves. It is, as said, an ad insert, Sunday paper, listed offers as good 12/15-12/20.

Good luck for those who might be able to use. :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

ETA....here is a scan of the ad...............

I saw that too and my eyes almost poped out. $249 for the S3 IS. WOW. Based on your initial investigation it might be a typo though. That is a very very low price. Maybe someone who might have a little more interest in one might do another round of investigating to see if it is true.

Isn't it true that if they advertise that price, they have to honor it? OK, so perhaps they don't have to, but many companies will. Had I not just bought the camera myself, I'd be all over that. :teeth: Will be interesting to see if anyone here has any luck with it.

Well, the transaction is not complete yet, because they say they will gladly ship it out next Jan... Doesn't do too much for the christmas gift giving.

But they said no problem on the price, with tax and free shipping, it was 268 out the door.

Will update when I find out more about the availibility

Ordered, got the price, but delivery might not be till January, which sucks.... but can't beat the price, and it was in unplanned purchase.... so what the heck...

I'm curious did they charge your CC right away or do they wait until it will be shipped?
Did they say why it won't be ready to ship until January?

I am in the market for this camera. This is the cheapest I have seen it but I wanted it before Christmas.
But at this price I may just order it and wait until after Christmas to play with my new camera.

They don't charge till it ships. They didn't say it wouldn't ship, they said they can't guarentee it will ship before then, that is the worst case senario. They said at that price they are getting a ton of calls and that their stock is depleated, so they are at the mercy of the distributor. At least that was their story. But it is $70 cheaper than anywhere else I have seen, and when I called BB to ask about matching, they said the best they would do was $339 they carry it for $399.

So I will call the customer service number tomorrow and see what I can do to get it here sooner. That was my first experience with Dell, and I have to say their call center leaves something to be desired.

Dell, especially when they're selling something other than their own computers, is not exactly know for their stellar customer service. I've seen several times where people end up just canceling when Dell is not able to provide what they claimed they would for their price.

Put it this way, I file Dell next to Wal-mart in the list of stores I respect, cough-cough. ;)

What is the E-Ticket number? I can't make it out in the scan copy.

I just got off the phone with Dell. Customer rep stated that price was a misprint and would not be honored. :furious:

Yeah, BIL just called; they wouldn't honor it. :sad2: that might be a blessing for me, because I was sooooooo tempted to suplement my XT with it, and I'm still waiting for Amazon to send me the new flash I just ordered this weekend! :rolleyes1

Well,

I am glad I got my order in yesterday then.. perhaps it would be best to not complain about getting it in Jan....

Just print a picture of the camera, fold it up and give it to her in a small jewlery box. :teeth:

Congrats MAsterMason :) Now here's hoping your order won't get cancelled !!!

Hope I'm using the right term. Looking for a remote so that when the camera is still you can hit the shutter release without shaking it. I looked on the Canon website and was unable to find anything. Anyone know?

Remote shutter release......I've googled it, I've eBayed it, but found nothing. If I remember correctly, I think someone mentioned that you can't use a shutter release with the S3. I could be wrong.

ETA: If I am wrong, this is good news. I have an S3 and would certainly purchase a remote shutter release.
