Canon S2

i might have gotten someone on a bad day but i originally ordered my daughter's camera from butterfly , had a slight problem with the order and the csr was so rude i canceled it and went with beach...figured if they are that rude and i haven't even paid for it yet what 's it gonna be like when they have my money and something goes wrong :confused3 the price isn't enough difference if it's going to be a headache

and the s3 is just about a $100 more if you aren't on a strict budget

I agree with Jann. If you have the budget, get the S3. ISO 800 capability and the ISO 800 is as clean as S2 ISO 400.

What is the best price you have seen the S2 going for now? Target has it for $349.99 but it seems i saw it cheaper somewhere else last week.

Does the pop up flash take a while to get use to? I'm use to auto everything & will probally forget to put the flash up the first few times. What is the best way to deal with the lens cover that is loose?

If you are a costco member they have it for $349. While that might not be the best price, they probably have the best customer service and return policies- of any retailer I've ever seen.

As for the flash, there is a reminder on the screen when the flash is needed. And if you take it and forget to use it, it will probably be a bad picture- and because its digital you'll know that RIGHT THEN- and you can retake it. I love not waiting for film developing.

I had the S2 at full optical zoom, not digital.
The photo below is cropped but full size.

Shooting Mode: Aperture-Priority AE
Photo Effect: Custom Effect
Tv (Shutter Speed): 1/250
Av (Aperture Value): 3.5
Light Metering: Spot
Exposure Compensation: -2
ISO Speed: 50
Lens: 6.0 - 72.0mm
Focal Length: 72.0mm
Digital Zoom: None
Image Size: 2592x1944

Also I used a tripod and the 10 second timer. I used 10 seconds to give the camera time to stop shaking from me pressing the shutter button.

Nice!

We have the S2 and after seeing your picture I really need to learn to use it properly!

beach has these for about 1/2 the price as the canon converter lens ( $160 + for the tele and wide angle , i think it also includes a macro lens...vs 199 for the canon wide angle only). anyone ever used this brand or know anything about it? actually i was hoping for a 55mm lens/converter so i could use some filters i have already but it seems the lens are only 58mm?? ( at least the ones i have found)

very dumb question but i wouldn't be able to use my filters on the wide angle anyway...the 55 or 58 would be the attachment end, not the lens end i am guessing? or would i? (not being able to use the 55mm circular polarizer i used only once is bugging the snetzel out of me :lmao: cheap cheap cheap)

what is the wide angle lens power? 0.8x? 0.6x? I bought the original Canon at the time because it's the one with the least amount of distortion amongst other brand. Whether it's worth $200 is really up to you. Even if you buy other brands, try using Kenko or ProOptics, they tend to be better, and don't buy anything wider than 0.7x for wide angle and nothing more than 2x for tele.

I'm on the fence. I'm a point and shoot kind of person, but I would really like to have some decent zoom for our trips. I'm looking at the Canon A700 with 6x, but for just a few dollars more, I can get the S2. Seeing as I'm not a photo hound, is it too much camera, or does it work just fine for a point n' shoot kind of lifestyle. I read all the posts here about this setting and that setting, but does the auto setting work for most situations?

Auto setting on the S2 works fine, you'll learn the other settings and use at your own pace. Or maybe just stick with auto if that suits your needs. It is a nice camera.

What an amazing shot.

I agree print it and hang it. :thumbsup2
