According to Canon Rumors there will be a $100 rebate on a 60D and $200 on a 7D starting 20 February (USA only).

Interesting - now if they lower the price of a refurbed 7D body by $150 or more that would mean you could be able to buy one through the Canon Customer Loyalty Program for less than $1,000....

I don't think I could resist a sub $1,000 7D body...even if it does weigh almost twice as much as my Rebel...every time I try a 7D in a store I can't get over that sweet, lightning fast focusing.

Hopefully this is in preperation for the announcement of an upgrade to the 7D. That should drive the price down a little further. Soooooo tempting.

I would also look at what current prices are before the possible rebates go into effect just to know if you are getting a good price. Some retailers might increase the price.

Wow so the rebates are in effect now. I see that the 7D is getting a $200 rebate. I checked the other day to see that the price of the 7D was around 1500 at B&H, so I go to the site today and the price has now gone up to $1899.00! Even with the rebate its still more expensive than it was before. :sad2:
I had a feeling this would happen so its not unexpected but I hoped.
Edited to say that I see Adorama is still selling it for about 1500.00

The 7D body only is $1499 with the rebate. The 60D body only is $899 with the rebate. I grabbed both prices from B&H. There is no rebate on the studio version of the 7D.

They must have changed the price again since I posted about it because when I posted it, the price was up to 1899.00. Several people over at dpreview also posted about the increase to $1899.00 as well. B&H must have adjusted it since. Maybe the $1899 was a snafu or maybe B&H was catching too much flak.
I believe though the price yesterday was still lower than 1499.00 than it is now.
I was hoping the price would drop into the 1300 with the rebate, I knew it was unlikely but I could hope.

The MSRP for the 7D is $1699. I know that authorized retailers can't drop too much below the MSRP so I wouldn't expect to see something much below the $1499 price from an authorized retailer, at least not while it's a current model. I think Adorama's price is like $1479.

Yesterday Buydig had the 60D @ $849 no rebate =$849 delivered...

Today Buydig has 60D @ $999 - $100 instant rebate = $899 delivered...

Similar situation at adorama, I stopped looking and will try to not buy from these sellers again.

figures :headache: bought mine last year...

I read a response about the rebate/price increase from Henry Posner (of B&H) on another forum and he explained that Canon has raised the price to retailers in January and February. If the price is still the same (or more) as before it appears that it is Canon's doing.

An interesting way to slide in a price increase without losing sales initially: raise the price; give a rebate; drop the rebate later and it looks like the price never really went up... Canon is not the first to try this.

yeah funny how they were forced to raise the price at the same second that the rebate was offered...

Yes that is what Posner claims... But I can not see Canon USA increasing the price of any camera BODY, Lenses yes but not on bodies.

Over $100 price increase overnight was not Canon's doing, even if the top BHphoto used car sales rep says so.

I know that Canon does enforce the Minimum Advertised Price game, if a retailer would like to take advantage of the Rebates.

But MAP does not equal mandatory selling price, many etailers can and do go below MAP during the checkout process. This is within MAP guidelines.

Well - this is a tad off topic, but apparently Canon wants to flush the system of 50D Cameras.

They have dropped the Refurb price almost $200 and since the 50D is available using the Customer Loaylaty Program you can now buy a 50D body for $562.70 + tax (just called Canon) - as long as you trade in a busted Canon camera.

I am seriously wavering.

Is the focusing on the 50D anywhere near as good as the 7D?
