Is Canon EF 28-135mm 3.5-5.6 IS Ultrasonic a good lens???

What is ultrasonic? What it does?

What is ProMaster Skylight?

ultrasonic motor is the focus system in the lens. it works fast and is really quiet, like you don't hear the focus at all!
I had used the 28-135 for a few yrs as a walk around lens. it's not bad if you get a good copy but it's old IS so you can't use it to pan like with some of the newer IS lenses and it isn't very good in lower light. the focal range is really nice though imo. i rarely needed wider (for longer I had a 70-200 anyway for that and now still rarely want anything less than 17mm so it depends on what you shoot). i had a xt which was unusable in any ISO higher than 400 so if your camera has been ISO functioning it would help. you probably could pick up an 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS for close to the same price as a new one and have better IQ, range and newer IS but not USM. I bought a tamron 17-55 f2.8( hunts a little so i miss the USM there) and had a 70-200 so i retired the 28-135. I probably won't ever use it again so i'll probably sell it to add to my macro fund
a skylight filter? i think i've heard that used for a UV filter. some like them for protection but other than that they aren't really needed with digital ( even the protection feature is heavily debated since they do degrade the image if they are cheap filters so some just use the hood for protection)

I have not used this particular lens. Below are a few reviews. Seems to be a multi-purpose lens at an affordable price.

If you are looking for a good value 28mm-something zoom lens and your budget limits you to the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens' price range, look no farther. The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens provides a great focal length range, reasonably sharp images and IS at a very low price point and in a relatively small package. This is a very popular lens - and for good reasons.

I am guessing the Promaster Skylight is a filter to protect the lens from scratches. It screws onto the front of the lens. The USM is the autofocus system used by Canon.

My 28-135 came with my 40D kit. It had problems right out of the box. Canon calibrated it for free though and it was better. Its an "ok" lens. It seems to wobble quite a bit now and the pics always needed sharpening when I used it.
