Canon A620, help :-)

I'm not a professional photographer by any means, but our last trip to WDW all my pictures of MNSSHP and most castle pics turned out blurry or not at all, older 35mm camera with few options of settings.

So, would a Canon A620 take pictures of parades, castle and fireworks that I could keep and not toss?

Would settings allow me to take pictures like this?

I'm in the process of buying a digital camera (3rd one, 2 previous were Kodak Easyshare's) and want one that is decent yet simple enough for me to use. I also like the option of the waterproof case I can buy for underwater pictures and have read some good reviews but need your expertise!

I am not too familiar with the 620. I can tell you that low light combined with movement is just about the hardest shot for a camera to capture well.

when reading reviews compare these points between cameras:

low light focus ability (you can not take a shot without focus lock unless you switch to manual focus, if the camera even has manual focus)
shutter lag (how much time the camera needs between you pressing the button and the picture being taken)
and high ISO quality (raising the ISO allows a faster shutter speed which is good in low light-fast action scenes, but it also adds noise to the image)

the a620 is very highly regarded. it has automatic modes and manual modes. if you can tolerate the size, i'd say go for it. it is a couple of generations old so is selling for some very low prices. great value!

i can recommend canon's underwater cases. we use them for snorkeling and we get some great pictures. they seem expensive but are really well-built.

I have the A620 and it's gotten great shots. Nighttime shots are difficult, and I usually use my Rebel for them (easier to change the settings). But if I were to get 1 P&S camers it would be the 620

I love my 620. The size doesn't bother me. I've been taking tons of shots lately and I'm just learning how to take great night shots.

We took a few a couple of weeks ago at a party and they came out pretty decent. I'm sure they'll be better, when I learn a bit more.

I posted in the morning and couldn't wait for replies so I went to Bestbuy and bought me the Canon A630, I have tried it some and messing with settings to see differences in the pictures, I love the delete/erase button

We came back from WDW with 14 rolls of 35mm film, developed for over $100 and not as many as I had hoped were good, especially since I thought I got the headless horseman (being only 6 feet away when he came down Main Street) at MNSSHP and only 2 of the castle pictures turned out.

Not to mention the Photopass, which our pictures were mostly taken in morning/bright sunlight and my DD is closing/squinting her eyes on almost all of them , no buying the PhotoCD for me

SO, next time, in Sept-07, I want to be sure to get some good pictures!!!! I bought 1GB memory and will be sure to purchase more before we go!!
