Canon 50D

I upgraded from the Digital Rebel to the 50D. I have been so happy with the results of this camera. It is heavy (especially with the battery grip), compared to the Rebel, that took a bit to get used to. I was like you, feeling like I was outgrowing the Rebel. There are TONS of web pages that can sort of hold your hand and walk you through the newer menus on the 50D. I can't wait to see the pictures that I get next month at WDW. It's going to feel like a whole new world going with my new camera! Good luck.

I ordered the kit lens, 18-200mm.
I can't wait! I hope I can understand this camera! Very excited to have a realy camera again! I must say I loved my fuji s5000 it has served me well and I will still use it often for my every day knock around camera....but it will be so much fun learning again and thinking about future lens purchases and all that stuff! :cool1::cool1: Wish me luck! Should be here in 5-9 days according to Amazon!

OK, did you get a Canon 50D or an old Nikon D50??? There is no Canon D50.

My question exactly. I'll assume 50D since he specifically mentioned Canon and I would assume that someone would get the brand of the camera they just purchased correct ;)

who names these things, anyway? D40, D60, d5000, D300, D3, D3x, 40D, 50D, XS, XSi, 5d, 1D, 1Ds....no wonder people get confused, look at all those Ds!

Gee wiz..... I typed it wrong:scared1:.......I ordered the Canon EOS 50D with EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5/6 IS:woohoo::woohoo:

Congratulations on your 50D! Be sure to share some pictures when it comes.

and here i was thinking maybe it was a new nikon/canon hybrid:rotfl:;) congrats on the purchase

congrats on your purchase! I recently got the Canon 50D as well and really like it. I previously had the RebelxTi so lots of the features are similar. While I'm not a pro or expert by any stretch, I can see differences in my photos already.

You will love the 50D! I upgraded from a Canon Rebel. I've been in heaven ever since I got it!

You will love that camera... i have a Nikon D60 and have often thought about switching over to the Canon 50D... It shoots amazingly fast and the lens you are getting will be awesome...

You sound just like me.

I just got the 50D too. I wish I would've just gotten the body though. I got the 28-135 mm lens and I'm not impressed with it. But the camera works awesome with my 50mm. I haven't tried my other lenses on it yet though.

I don't quite understand Canon's logic in using that lens as a kit lens with a crop-body. It's plenty long enough, but only effectively 45mm at it's widest on the 40D/50D. The 17-55 IS lens makes much more sense as a kit lens.

I agree with you. I am still surprised at how often I have to "back-up" when I go to take a picture. I was so used to the 17-55 as my walkaround lens on my other camera.

Ok, been looking and reading online for a new camera. I have thought of a d200 at bestbuy for 599.00, though that price has expired. I showed the wife that camera and she did not like the fact it had no pre sets. Went to bestbuy and looked at the d60, canon rebel, she did not like them, too small. We both like the d90 and the 50d. Price is about the same. What would you go with? I have no preference on brand and will need a lens either way. We do not care abou the video mode on the nikon.

I'm a Nikon guy so I say go with the D90.

In the end you can't go wrong with either. Both are great camera's and should last you many many years.

The only bad thing I've heard about the 50D is that it's high ISO performance isn't as good as expected. Canon may have pushed the MP's to far. Also it performs MUCH better with Great glass (then again, most bodies will). I do have a good friend who sold one of his 40D's to get the 50D and loves it.

The D90 has the same sensor as the D300 which is outstanding. There are quite a few very happy D90 users here.

Its tough to compare Nikon to Canon side by side, because they don't actually match up evenly. The 50D would fall between the D90 and the D300 though maybe slightly towards the D300.

In the end you'll want to really play with both of them. Get a feel for where the buttons are. While they both are about the same size, their overall layout is different.

Go with what you feel most comfortable with.

I wouldn't say the price on the D90 is almost the same...there is a $200ish difference.

That said I like the Canon better for its ergonomics and build. However that's just the feel I like more. You make like something else.

However I would pay more attention to which manufacturer makes the lenses you want at the price you want. There is a lot of the same from each manufacturer but there are some differences that are important depending on what your looking for.

I'm a Canon guy, and I love the solid feel and the options that the 50D has to offer. I picked Canon because of their extensive lens lineup. However, a good friend of mine has a D90, and I must admit it's a nice camera as well.

Both are fantastic cameras, you can't really go wrong with either.

I like the 50d and the dw likes the d90 (mainly for price $1000.00 with kit lens), we did see a 40d at costco for 900 with a kit lens and a flash unit. I was thinking this might be a good compromise. It seems to have a good build, fast 6.5 fps, it has goten some good reviews. What do you guys think???
