Do you ever wish your camera was a bit smaller? I LOVE my 3SIS, but I'd like to have something smaller to keep in my purse on some trips. Does anyone have one of the smaller Canons that they could recommend?

I love my S5. I like the zoom enough to "put up" with it's size. For absolute carrying though, we also have a Canon A420 that my wife uses primarily.

I'd like to get a portable p n s with about 6x zoom and decent shots. I was really tempted by an Olympus in one of last Sunday's inserts, but now I can't find it.

Hi! I have an S3is as well and I do like it - but I am about to move to the dSLR world!

Anyway, a friend of mine has the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 - a compact camera with a 12x zoom! (I know it's not a Canon!) The photos I have seen look really good on it. The only thing that I don't like is it doesn't seem to have a view finder. For me, I have to use the viewfinder or I am taking my glasses on and off all day! That may not be an important point for you, though. It is pocket/purse sized - much smaller than the S3. I

It would be worth a look - I don't know if it has a different "name" in the US, though - I know some Canon cameras are marketed under different names in Australia.

Have fun searching!

AMEN!! I am soooo torn - part of me wants to move up to the dSLR world, and part of me wants a smaller camera that I can shove in my purse and not have to worry about so much. I've been looking at some of the smaller cameras with decent zooms, but like hjd0411 said, I need a viewfinder, esp. in bright sunlight.

I upgraded from the S3 to the SX10 IS - 20x zoom, but your lose some aperture, and it's a bit larger than the S3. Truth be told, I still use my S3 a lot more than I thought I would.

We usually carry Canon dSLRs but wanted a pocket camera for occasions where we just don't want to carry a SLR. We bought a Canon SD1100 and it is tiny, works ok, but has very little adjustability and is completely out of it's element in low light. The flash is good to maybe 8'.

So, we also needed something in the middle, which the G11 filled. ;) All of these have viewfinders, a must for us.
No more new cameras (for now).

Just get a bigger purse - problem solved! :lmao:

Personally, I love my S3 and the size is a non-issue for me. In all fairness I do carry a backpack style purse and not much in it so my camera fits comfortably inside so when I don't want to carry the camera in it's bag so it's no problem for me just to put it in my purse. I guess I don't consider it "big". Of course I'm also thinking of making the jump to the DSLR world so maybe that's a good thing.

I carry my S3 IS with me at all times in my purse as a back up to my dSLR. It is a little akward to carry, but its picture quality and ease of use (for me, since I'm used to it) make it worth it. That sucker takes an awesome picture.

For those of you who have a 3SIS and upgraded to a 5S or the newer model (10S???), are you pleased with the upgrade? I have had a 3S for over 3 years and love it, but over the weekend I tried a friends 5S and her pictures were so much better than mine. The lighting and clarity were just better; I could tell right away when looking at the camera screen. Now I'm thinking of upgrading...

Comments?

Thanks!

Do you ever use software to try to get your pictures to look better???? You don't have to go over the top, but just a little something here and there to the pictures you really like. If anything, I'd suggest upgrading to whatever is the newest model; as opposed to just an S5. Also, you might want to find out what your friend's camera settings are (i.e. sharpness, contrast, saturation, etc...). That might solve the question as to why her pictures might appear to be better than yours.

Here are some comparisons from when I had an S3:

These were done with very basic adjustments...

So don't feel too bad with what you have. :thumbsup2

I do run my photos through noiseware, but haven't done this batch yet. It was just such a noticeable difference on the camera screens. Your photos are being blocked with little red X's, so I'll have to try to look on a different computer. Thanks for your help!

Maybe I should clarify. I don't necessarily want an S5, just the newest model equivelent to the S3. Is that an S10? What I'm wondering is if the upgrade in features is worth the $$$.

Thanks!

I wouldn't bother upgrading from the S3 to S5 even if you could find an old S5!
In the Canon line look at the newer superzoom models like the S90, SX1, SX20, etc. I would also look at the other superzoom "bridge" cameras like the Panasonic FZ35 and Nikon P100

Hello! I'm getting ready to photograph DD for her first prom in a week. What settings do you all suggest? Weather permitting I'll be taking photos outside.

Nothing too fancy, I'm not a pro but I can take a pretty decent photo when I have the time!

Thanks!:thumbsup2

Keep the background simple and uncluttered. You want the people to be the focus!:goodvibes

Keep the ISO low in case you want to enlarge any of the prints.

Have fun! I hope the weather cooperates!:)

Zoom in! Don't be afraid to stand back from your subject and use the zoom even for portraits. Longer focal lengths generally look better for close up face shots and even sometimes full body shots. So, take a few more steps back and zoom the camera in a bit. Just watch the shutter speed for camera shake(use a tripod if its not that bright outside).

Use the flash. It may not be that powerful but it's probably enough to put a slight glint in the subjects eye if there is little light in front of them. This gives the eyes more emotion.
