Cannon guns on ise of the Resistance?

Exactly when did the cannon gun stop moving on Rise of the Resistance? I thought that was one of the coolest features of the escape. One of the cast members told me it's been quite some time. I'm guessing it stopped because it caused too many timing issues with the escape vehicles. I would hope there was a way they could fix that so we could get it back.

Anybody else know anything?
 
The only time I saw them work was in September 2021 (my first ride!). They were not functional at my next visit in January 2022.

When they were working the cars and cannons were timed to move out of each others way. The cars moved forward and backwards to avoid the cannons.
Sort of a cat and mouse movement.
 
You’re not alone in wondering! I thought I just kept having bad luck, it was an incredibly cool effect.

I wouldn’t hold my breath.

This seems to be the new normal at Disney.

It would cost money to fix them. The ride is still popular without them. So we won’t bother to fix them.

Just like the hologram on Pirates. Or the water pulley system on Swiss Family Treehouse. Et cetera.

That's clearly been true over the last 5 + years. More things broken and not repaired.

Rode Mother's Day. Not working. It was a cool scene with it.
 
I don't think we will see the Ion cannons move again. It was really a cool effect but if rumors are to be believed, this was one of the 27 points of failure for the ride that would stop it from operating and often the main cause. That and the Kylo animatronic which operates only about 50% of the rides I am on.

While I loved the Ion cannons, the most important effect in my opinion, that they need to keep running is the lightsaber effect in the top of the elevator. The story feels weird when it isn't working.
 
Rode today. No cannons, but I can’t remember what they were like, so didn’t miss them. No Kylo Ren animatronic. He was facing us in his shop instead, which I’d never seen, and it was cool. I kinda liked it as much or more than the animatronic .

Kyle Ron has been in B mode for several days now. The only time we saw the real version was on our first ride on Memorial Day. Every time since it was B mode. I’m just thankful we got the legit version that time because it was my gf’s first ever ride and I’m sorry but B mode is so lame.

Re: the cannons I only ever saw them moving back when I rode it in 2021 for the first time on my May trip and also July. They worked every time I rode on those trips. Made me so sad they’re not bringing it back because it was so much more thrilling.

I know it’s an autocorrect typo, but from now on, I’m gonna call B mode Kylo Ren, Kyle Ron.
 
Our last ride in April....

- no pre-show with Ray, just walked through that room
- no transport ride (walked down an un-themed corridor near the back of the transport for cast members, to the hanger on the Star Destroyer)
- no lightsaber in the elevator
- no Kylo animatronic, did see him outside in a ship for the first time.
- no cannons (those haven't worked for years now)
- no Beck at the unloading are - he was talking, but his cabin didn't light up and he didn't move.
- Did get to wait nearly an hour to experience what we experience.... and paid full price for the ILL. Did check with Blue Tent people, as many other were doing, and they said we got to ride it....

Couldn't believe how much was down, all at one time.... and they were still allowing operations. The un-themed corridor was really the most shocking part.... seemed very un-Disney to take you out of the "show". My guess is in the past they simply shutdown the ride for this number of issues, but at this point they are doing what they can with what the have.
 
I could have sworn the cannon guns works on my last ride on my April trip.... we rode it three times that one day. I remember seeing the guns not firing the first two times, but definitely on the last time (Hollywood After Hours 4/19) they were booming and moving as we went through (about 1130pm) because I noticed the difference. The lightsaber effect worked on all of our rides.

DH rode Rise one day and said it was a 4/10. Our friends he went with were 1st timers and they loved it.

I rode a day or 2 later and it was a 9/10, point off for cannons. One of our party (her 2nd ride) said it was so much better that time (and CMs were simply amazing in their roles that night!)

Sunday was a 6/10. At least 3 or 4 things not working.

Yeah if you don't know what your missing.... you don't miss it.

It's a great concept, but I do wonder with the number of active cast members (take a lot of them) it takes to operate the attraction and with the technical issues that seem to be the norm. What is it costing Disney to operate this attraction in comparisons to their other ILL attractions?
 
We did an After Hours earlier this year, and the cannons were working everytime we went through.
That was our first time, have an incredible ride!
