My son has a terrible time with them too. They used to get huge and take 10 days to go away.

Much better now though. We use "Orabase" on them. Also, he gets fewer and what he does get go away faster since we started using "Rembrandt Cancer Sore" toothpaste. Hard to find a the stores now though, so have been ordering from drugstore.com.

I'll have to check out these other ideas too though. Still some struggles, especially in the spring. (No idea why this would be.)

We swear by Orabase. It works overnight. It is kinda gritty but if you put it on just before bed for a day or two it works pretty good. Also Salt water rinse.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions and to give an update. DS reported that the Oral-B Amosan really helped heal the sores he had. So now he's doing the preventive measures - vitamins, special toothpaste (he's not crazy about it but willing to try!) and mouth rinse. Hopefully this will keep future outbreaks to a minimum. He refuses to give up sugar and soda however!

BTW he said the SATs were pretty tough. Math wasn't too bad but the section with the obscure vocabulary words was hard. I can't figure out how that tests your knowledge or reasoning ability but what do I know :confused3 ?

I had a huge problem with them, until I began rinsing daily - with peroxide. And if one happened to pop up, I'd full strength it with a Q-tip dipped in it, and it is usually gone the next day.

And it makes your teeth whiter. :thumbsup2

Ive been doing this with my son, and this also has been working for him. And it's cheap..

Does anyone ever get these on their tongue? Those ones are really sore! I have one now, and you can't put any of the gel stuff on your tongue.

I have had a couple of others, and the only guess I have for the cause is that for me stress might be a trigger. Every time I've had this type of sore tongue was when something stressful is happening.

I went to the dentist about a previous tongue canker sore. He said that it should go away within a few weeks at the most. Just when my few weeks were up and I was about to make another appointment, it did go away on its own. I hope this one goes away soon.

I take a daily multi-vitamin and a daily Tums for calcium. I have Lysine-L on hand (from that last canker sore) and will start taking it today. Any other suggestions on prevention?
