Canker Sore HELP needed ... OUCH!

Perhaps Marquis did not mention Lysine because many others have already mentioned it? Also, unfortunately, the toothpaste swap works for some, but not others (darn it!)

I think if there were a viral component involved, these would be passed between spouses. Per several studies, they are not contagious, so that lessens that possibility...

There have been several great tricks listed I am going to try next time! I think mine are exaggerated by GERD. The gift that keeps on giving! :)

Good luck, OP!

1. Lysine - it can't hurt
2. Change toothpaste. Use one with baking soda and peroxide. (I think that these are in the oral rinse Amosan, which is recommended by doctors) Too much of the Lauryl Sodium ingredient, and even too much Fluoride, is definitely KNOWN to trigger canker sores. I haven't had one since I changed to Mentadent years ago.... I was just hoping for whiter teeth... The suppression of canker sores was a welcome surprise. I now use Arm and Hammer.

I totally agree with the above. L-lysine works like a charm for me.

There are 2 ingredients in toothpaste that wreck my mouth- sodium pyrophosphate is the worst offender. When I say that the skin on the inside of my mouth peels away, :scared: :scared: :scared: . Another is soduim laurel sulphate, but it's no where near as bad as the SPP stuff and can use it. I think the SPP is used in whitening toothpastes primarily.

I have always had luck with plain old Hydrogen peroxide - clears them up fast! The taste is a little yucky so I just put some ona Q-Tip and dab it on!

I also rinse with water as warm as I can stand it.

:)
