Candy Lady...

We just returned from our 6th WDW trip but first experience with Miyuki, the Candy Lady in Japan at Epcot. I read about her on these boards and I insisted that we go and see her. My DH and 3 kids were very reluctant...well, it was a highlight of our WONDERFUL trip. The first time we saw her, our 2 youngest kids were 'nudged' out by about 10 teenage girls on their senior trip...a few teens (maybe 3 or 4) were waiting, like my 2 and few other kids, but when Miyuki started, they got on their cell phones and 5 or 6 more girls came out of the store in Japan! My kids were very disappointed and it was the last show of the night. So 2 days later, we went back before our Le Cellier ADRs. My son was right up front to her right and was the second one chosen...she remembered us being there! There was one young man (mid 20's) who obviously tried and wasn't chosen and came back and she said 'you are patient and I pick you'...he had one done for his girlfriend, very sweet. We watched her 3 times...very interesting and special to be chosen. My DD (14) was chosen but a little boy who was barely big enough to be seen tried 3x and so my DD gave her 'turn' to him - it was very sweet! He was SO excited!

Each time she made between 5-6 animals, many types in any color. my son LOVES squirrels and had one made...with a nut and grass! We had it wrapped and boxed (for free) at the store right behind where she 'performs.' my DS LOVED this experience!! I loved the birds!

To increase your chance at being a chosen one...go early and right up front (or to side, but right up close). Be patient and DON'T call out! If you don't get chosen the first time, go again soon after...she tends to remember you! This is a MUST see for us each trip...even if we don't get 'chosen' - it is still great!! BTW...her schedule is always posted on the Epcot Times Schedule!

Enjoy!! :cloud9:

Miyuki is one of Epcot's hidden treasures. She is a very talented woman. It was sweet of your daughter to offer her turn to a small child!

We too were lucky enough to experience Miyuki this trip. We watched her one evening during her last show but were not chosen. I took older DD back there two days later and stood patiently for 15 minutes prior to her arrival. My DD is very sweet and somewhat timid. There were two boisterous Aussie boys pushing and shoving their way to the front. As you can imagine I was disappointed when she rewarded one with a rhino. I was so afraid that Kelly would miss out due to her lack of assertiveness but she was chosen and received a lovely pink swan. I was truly amazed at the patience of this woman. She made a gorgeous eagle for one very demanding young girl, then remade it when the careless child stood there twirling it and dropped it to the ground. The only reason I make a point of mentioning this is that this was not a young little girl, she was old enough to have been more cautious. Her creations are amazing! I wish I knew how to post the pic.

My DS is shy too, but desperately wanted his squirrel! He only half raised his hand (though I was encouraging him to raise it high). Though she doesn't appear to study the group, she has great skills at assessing the crowd, and does remember people. I will try to post pictures tomorrow!
