Candy canes? Any info?

I've never even tried for the handmade candy canes. Are they worth the effort? How do you get a wrist band? How is it different from a "normal" candy cane? Anything anyone wants to tell me would be great

You line up on the day they are offering them, they hand out wrist bands, you come back at the time they tell you and pay for the candy cane. If you don't make it back, they put the left overs on sale about 3 or 4.

The candy canes look like the one on the left. They are approx 12".

First day they are usually offered is the day after Thanksgiving. I believe they went through Christmas day last year. Disney posted a schedule online somewhere (maybe the parks blog?) last year I think. You can usually get the schedule of which parks and which days by calling the Candy Kitchen Hotline at 714-781-0112 (closer to the dates the candy canes will be made).

I've never bought one, but I enjoy watching them get made.

They are totally worth it! We bought 3 total; we ate two of them and with the last we shellacked it and hang it on our tree every year.

FWIW, if you like candy canes, you will totally enjoy the flavor and consistency of a fresh, hand-pulled canes from the candy shops at DL and DCA. They have a light, airy texture and cool peppermint flavor that the mass-produced ones can't capture. I've always thought that small batch food always tastes better than food prepared in large quantities, and these candy canes are no exception. Back before DCA was producing the canes, there was almost pandemonium at rope drop for people to rush and get the limited number of canes available on the few days a week they made them. Batches are about 150 canes and there were only three batches a day...pulling the candy is hard work. When they started making them at DC as well as DL, it no longer seemed to be a problem getting at least one cane, if not two. I haven't been back for almost two years, but will be in the parks the end of this month. If I'm lucky, one of the two days I'll be there they will be making canes and I hope to get one again. Hope this helps.

If they do have them when you're there you should definitely update us! I'm going in Dec and looks like based on historical candy cane days that we will be there for a couple. I love candy canes! I'm hopeful that I can get some good tips from here to use so I can get one while there!

Looking back thru stuff, I also paid $12.99 in Dec 2013, and in 2012. In 2011, I paid $12.95. In 2010, they were $9.95.

I spoke with two cast members at the Candy Palace today. They told me that no one's heard anything official yet but that they expect to get at least some details on the 10th. Their best guess was that we'll start to see the candy canes after Thanksgiving. But then we all could have guessed that ;-).
