We are planning on a trip to DL this Dec. and are considering staying at one of the above hotels. We are a family of 5 adults and 3 kids-16yr old son and daughters 10 and 5.
Which hotel do you like better??? Which one is closer to DL and how much closer??
Does the Candy Cane have a indoor pool or a out door pool. Whcih hotel would be better for a family of our size??? Any comments on either, good or bad would be greatly appreciated as we decide what hotel to stay at and thanks in advance !!!!

Hi Bob -- the Candy Cane Inn is closer, and has a small outdoor pool. They only sleep four to a room, though, if that matters to you. They are right next to Disneyland, about 250 yards away and offer a complimentary continental breakfast each day.

I haven't been to the Desert Inn and Suites, but it is right across the street from Disneyland. They have parlor suites that sleep up to six in one room and family suites that sleep eight. Their small pool is indoors, and they also have a complimentary continental breakfast.

I've heard good comments about both places, so I don't think you'll go wrong either way. :)

Thanks for the info!!! Yes it does matter how many per room for sleeping reasons!! I also believe a indoor pool would be better as the weather in Ca wont be as nice as in Orlando in Dec. But i could be wrong about that.

Doesnt anybody out their have any info????

Bob, I have friends who won't go to Disneyland unless they can get reservations at Candy Cane. They consider it an essential part of their trip. I have never heard a complaint about the place. The rooms are supposed to be great. I hear their breakfast is very nice.

The Desert Inn and Suites is closer to the main gate and has that small indoor pool, plus the suites. I have heard mostly good things about it.

I have stayed at both.
The Desert Inn and Suites is decent enough. We had a parlor suite with two queens in the bedroom and a pullout sofs in the small parlor....key word being small. There were only two of us so we didn't pull out the sofa so don't know how comfortable it is as a bed. It would take up most of the parlor when pulled out. The room was great for us though. The Desert Inn doesn't have alot of personality but the location is excellent. The indoor pool is not real large and the room it is in is small. There were only a few kids in it when we were there and it was very loud and echoing in there. I didn't care for the pool but in December it will most likely be a bit easier to swim in.
The Candy Cane has loads more personality outside and inside. The rooms are smaller than (but much nicer looking) the Desrt Inn and I don't know how you would sleep five but it wouldn't hurt to call. The pool is smallish but is much better looking ( even though it is located in the middle of the parkinglot) with some nice gardens on either side and a patio with nice tables for relaxing and eating the continental breakfast which is much better than the Desert Inn. There is also a wading pool and a hot tub under a gazeebo.
It is about a 4-5 minute farther walk than the Desert Inn.
Desert Inn is 6-7 stories tall.
Candy Cane is two stories tall.
