Candy Cane Inn Shuttle

So for my November trip I've narrowed it down to three hotels - Best Western PPI, Candy Cane Inn or the DLH (depending on discounts and O/T).

I like the location of the Best Western but I like the look and ammenities of the CCI (especially since we'll be in town for a week and looking to do some relaxing along with the parks).

We'd be relying on the shuttle at the CCI (if I'm going to walk all day at the park, I want to save my feet on the to and fro) but I am concerned about the actual shuttle. I know they have 2 - a shuttle bus and a shuttle van.

The shuttle bus is fine but my question is about the Van - is it one of those large 14 seaters? You know the ones that are high up. I am short (5 feet) and plus sized and find it difficult to climb into those large vans without a step stool (I'm not a kid anymore). Anyone had experiences with this shuttle van?

Thanks in advance.

My MIL had no troubles with the van and the guy had a step stool if you needed it. I don't think you will have an issue though. The shuttle is wonderful and a lifesaver for the feet at the end of a long day! We love the Candy Cane! The breakfast is the best on Harbor Blvd and it is nice to have a fridge and be so close to a convenience mart and Subway etc... was a lifesaver for us!

I think that was one of the worst parts of the DLH, and unexpected, was the long walk from the DLH to DL itself. When the monorail was running we could catch that in but you aren't at the main gate. Otherwise you are hoofing it through DTD to get to the park. The last monorail of the evening is before the fireworks too, which made it a PITA if we wanted to see them. The long walk back to DLH at night with a whiny husband and 4 year old was a little too much for me!!

That isn't always the case. We watched Fantasmic! and then the fireworks, and then rode Nemo, and still got on the Monorail and it wasn't the last run of the evening, either. I wonder if it has something to do with the park hours? We were there before Thanksgiving and the park was open until midnight, I believe.

The only time I've been on the van, was during a very slow afternoon and I think they knew there wouldn't be many people coming back to the CCI at that time of day, so maybe that's why they chose to use it :confused3 . But if I remember it correctly, it isn't the larger 'shuttle' type van. Just a large van (two bench seats in the back). And there were only 4 of us on it at that time. But they have a little step stool to use if needed. :thumbsup2 Hope that helped a little. ;)

Thanks - it does make me feel better.

We're planning on Mid-November - between Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving (Nov 16-21).

Last year at WDW we were being picked up at our hotel to go to the filming of our local morning show (who were taping at Disney the week we were there) and they used one of those big vans. My mom (who has mobility issues and walks with a cane) sat up front and I had to get in the back. I ended up with a huge bruise on my leg from scrambling up on my hands and knees trying to get it.

I have some anxiety issues about things I can't control and my worst fear was after a long day at the park (or even mid afternoon on a crappy day) having to deal with some large van where the door opens at my arm pits and trying to figure out how to get in.

So, thanks for your information - it looks like it's the CCI for us!

We stayed there twice in 2006 and once in 2007. We never saw a small van. Every time we took the shuttle it was always the large bus. The only tip I have, is find out what shuttle will be missing from the evening schedule. There is always one around 7-8pm that doesnt run, so the driver can take a dinner break. It'll be posted in the lobby and driver can also tell you. We did get caught a couple times (once each on two different trips) and had to walk back after our afternoon break.

Only once in all the years we stayed did the CCI shuttle not show up. We just called the hotel and they sent someone to get us, no prob. I really like the fact that the hotel has a security guard at night. I always felt safer knowing he was right there in the parking lot in his little shack!

The monorail may be a seasonal/late closing issue. When we stayed last time the park closed soon after the fierworks and every day they announced to make sure you made the last ride back. We didn't the second night and my crew moaned and groaned the whole way back to DLH!! It was just a longer walk then we expected after a long day in the park.

If saving your feet is also a major concern, taking the CCI shuttle will only save you about 200 ft of walking when compared with the BWPPI. The shuttle parking area is large and the CCI shuttle stops at the end farthest away from the entrance gate.

I prefer the CCI (rooms, staff, ambience, parking) over the BWPPI but riding their shuttle doesn't really save on the walking.
