OK all my Dis Friends....I need your advice :goodvibes
After several trips to Disney World, I have decided that next year I will take my son to Disneyland for our annual disney vacation. :cool1: Having never been to Disneyland before, I read over the boards here page by page, but am still left with a few questionsbut I'll start with the hotel dilema first. ;) I have narrowed our hotel choices to HoJo's and the Candy Cane Inn.
Here is where I need your help! Since we have never been to Disneyland before, I don't think we will be in our rooms much (but would still like a nice place to stay in). We are looking to travel next August for 9 nights. We will be staying at Disneyland for all 9 nights, however, we will take a few day tours to Universal and Hollywood. It seems like both hotels are about the same distance to the parks. My son will be 11 years old then, so Castaway Cove at Hojo's isn't a big deal to him. We do like to lounge in the pool and understand that the CCI only has a small pool. It looks like CCI has more restaurant options closer by, with a 7-11 and market right next door to buy food/drinks for our room. Hojo's has Mimi's but nothing else seems closer. We will not have a car, so restaurants that are closer are better. Hojo's have balconies, CCI doesn't. CCI has a breakfast, Hojo's doesn't.....ugh....I can't decide on my own....any advice?! :thumbsup2
Thanks
Erin

Hojo's has bigger rooms but no breakfast. However, not only is Mimi's right next door but there is a McDonald's on the walk to DL and Millie's. If you don't want to walk, you can take ART but there is a fee for it.

CCI has smaller rooms but a free breakfast. They also have their own dedicated shuttle. But they are quite a bit more expensive.

Both have nice grounds and great staff. Depends on what your priorities are! We always choose Hojo's because of the price difference.

We have stayed at HOJO's and we really enjoyed it staying there. the rooms were nice, it was quite, the staff was helpful and Mimi's next door was a great bonus!!

They're both quite nice, but it's true that HoJo's pool area is nice and fairly large. If I were you, I would try to angle for the Entertainment rate at HoJos. Try and go midweek, book far out, and then hope your dates come up on the Ent rate page: http://www.hojoanaheim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14 Then you can call and switch your reservation to the lower rate.

HoJo has a little convenience shop in the lobby with lots of basics like milk, bread, peanut butter, juice, cereal, etc. You could also order groceries from Vons or Albertsons, to be delivered to your hotel room.

Just my opinion. Either hotel is very well thought of around here.

I've always chosen Hojo's because of the larger rooms and the Entertainment rate more than makes up the difference in the price of breakfast. If I weren't able to get the Entertainment rate though I would probably like to try CCI one day. Like others have said though, I'm sure you can't go wrong with either.

Thank you for all your replies....but I have a few more questions (sorry ;) ) Can anyone tell me how far of a walk it is to Denny's and the Gardenwalk from Hojo's? Or are they in walking distance? I know that Mimi's has great reviews and is next door to Hojo's, but what else (besides McD's) are close by? Does Hojo's or CCI have laundry facilities? I think is it for the questions (for now) :goodvibes
Thanks again
Erin

hojos has a laundry room i rember reading about it. also dennys is just down the harbor closer to the cross walk to get to disney.

Yes, Hojo's definitely has a laundry room. I've always stayed in building 2 and there's a laundry room in the building. There are 4 buildings; I don't know if there's laundry in each building but I would think so. We've also eaten at Millie's which is between Hojo's and DL, but Mimi's is our usual eatery there.

HoJo's has 2 laundry rooms. One in bldg. 1 and one in bldg. 2. There is a Quiznos on your way to the park (I think in front of the Tropicana). HoJo also has their own mini mart where they sell food and breakfast items.

I agree that you can't go wrong with either one.

I had the exact same dilemma, and have never been there either, I just booked with the HOJO only because I have an entertainment card. But I can honestly say it had to be one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever encountered while booking a hotel!!!

My vote would be for the HOJO. Breakfast isn't the most important thing, there are a lot of people on here telling me about albertsons delivering to the HOJO. I have been reading these forums, I have really been swayed to HOJO. But that's just me.

I haven't stayed at Hojo's yet but we really really liked CCI. :thumbsup2 It has nice laundry facilites, and it does have little patio areas to sit at on the 2nd floor walkway. THere are little alcoves with tables, chairs, and nice plants around them. They aren't totally private but very pleasant to sit and eat at. I liked that it was an easy walk over to the Subway resturant and a little pizza place. We usually grabbed something quick at the breakfast room and then munched while we took the pleasant walk to the gates. We found we liked walking there in the morning to loosen up our walking legs; but loved the shuttle on the way home.
The grounds at CCI are really a lovely thing to come back to when you're tired at night. It's lit nicely and as is reported on often, the grounds are just beautiful. We didn't worry about swimming so much because we have pool where we live so that wasn't a priority. We preferred having a quick snooze in the afternoon when we took our breaks.
We plan on staying there when we go again. :cheer2:

We liked Hojo's, it was close enough to walk to the parks.

We got the entertainment rate which made it SO affordable. I could see the Matterhorn out my window.

We liked that the restaurants were so nearby, but since we saved so much money in the room, we ate at the places in the park and DTD that we wanted to. I really felt like HOJO's walking to the park was not much further than walking to the bus stop from one of the back buildings at a value resort.

It was a comfortable walk in the evening as well, even being five months pregnant.

I have never stayed at either hotel, but I go to DL all of the time. I know for sure Candy Cane has a complementary shuttle to and from the park. I have seen it with my own two eyes. Candy Cane is also alot closer to Garden Walk. I would say, depending on how fast you walk, maybe a 10-15 min. walk. Sorry I couldn't be a little more help, but like I said Candy Cane does have a free shuttle and is right next door to a 7-11 and another convenience store. It is also across the street from a mini mall that has a dougnut shop, chinese food, pizza place, mexican food place, and a liquor store. Hope this helps.
:cheer2: Have fun!!!! You'll love it there.

It's a hard choice, isn't it! I have always stayed at CCI and love it! I will be staying at HOJO's in March because that is where the group I am going with is staying. They deffinitely have great rates and they are closer to more "sit down" restaurants, so it just depends what's important. I love the shuttle back to the hotel. I have heard that hojos and cci are almost the exact same distance from the park. I love the look of cci, the plantation shutters, high quality bedspreads, etc, though the rooms can't be considered large. I also loved the breakfast. I would always toast up a bagel and put some butter or cream cheese on it and have a banana and then grab an apple to take and eat later. My family also loved the cereal and pasteries they have available. It was so nice not to have to go somewhere and be seated and purchase a meal. It is all right there, toaster and all! Anyways good luck on your choice and keep in mind that no matter which one you choose it will be great!

I have not stayed at either, but from what I have learned on this board (and because I am budget minded to the penny) I would choose which ever is less expensive

However, the benefits I see to each...

CCI...

Shuttle for the evening
Proximity to Garden Walk, IE- more dining options for non park days/dinning
Breakfast

Hojo...

Water play area for kids (not an issue for you however)
Larger room with balcony

OK, now that I have written this out and if I can remeber back correctly to your original post, again if price is the same or smilar, for you I would choose CCI.
You said Hojo water play area is not a big deal for your 11 y/o (however I dont know if CCI pool is adequate to lay around)
You will not have a car, so more dinning options around CCI
Breakfast
room size would not be an issue for me if it was just me and DS

Have I helped at all?? Not sure I have done anything but confuse myself:rotfl:

We have stayed at both. They are both nice hotels, grounds are nicer at CCI but rooms are smaller. It is nice to have access to a quick and free breakfast in the morning but I prefer HoJo's. We never took the shuttle from CCI as it was easier to just walk. We like to eat at Millies much better than MiMi's when staying at HoJo. The staff has always been very courteous and helpful at HoJos and my one interaction with the staff at CCI did not leave me impressed. My daughter really likes the pools at HoJo's but she didn't swim at CCI when we stayed there. I REALLY like the entertainment rate I can get at HoJos and CCI ends up costing nearly double. After staying at CCI for one trip we've gone back to HoJo every time.

I have stayed at both. You cannot go wrong with either choice. Given all of the pro's and con's I summize this: If you can get Hojo's at the $59 or $74 Ent rate, go for them. If the price is close to the same, I vote for CCI. But again, they are both very popular choices with wonderful grounds and customer service. Good luck and let us know what you decide.:)
