Candy buffets....

Even in my wildest Willy Wonka dreams I never imagined this type of thing existed. One my thing to add to my "Must Do" list before I die;)

I saw that on one of the wedding shows on TLC. Cool idea but not everyone likes potatoes..... They were served in a martini glass on the show I saw.

Yup.. Plus all that starch during cocktail hour, sort of slows down your guests

2008 was the year of cupcake wedding cakes.

2009 was the candy bars

See what 2011 brings.

What I love is how the brides all think THEY are being so creative and unique and we are just like, "seen it 20 times already this year".

On the flip side, we get many 3 or 4 a year (do about a 100 weddings a year at my hotel) that really do come up with something unique and special. Our staff loves doing those!

These are all gorgeous. Especially like the graduation one because it was real life.

But, quick question - with all this candy, don't you run the risk of having all your guests groaning and holding their tummies after awhile?

I don't know if I could resist temptation on trying everything.

Is there a pepto bismal table also? :lmao:

I think a lot of people take the candy home. I know I saw bags in one of the pictures.

We had one for my DD's high school graduation 2 years ago. It was not nearly as fancy as the ones posted but it was still a big hit! Our party was an outdoor open house so I specifically stayed away from anything chocolate. We picked most of DD's favorite candy from when she was younger. The fill your own Pixie Sticks went over very well. We had clear bags for the guests to fill. I was afraid that we would run out but we had plenty of leftovers.

We're having a party for my older DD's college graduation and everyone is asking if I'm doing anything special but I haven't planned anything.

Any ideas?

waughzee --congrats on your son's graduation. The pics are fantastic as are the tables of candy! Would appreciate anyone's input on some of the printed up "sayings/poems, etc" that go along with these tables. Thanks

That looks amazing!!!!! Do you have any left over that you want to share?
I have an entire rubbermaid tote full that I am trying to unload! I can't believe it, we had about 250 people, and still have leftover candy. I guess I couldn't convince everyone to really load up! :rotfl:

Candy tables are so 2009 now :lmao:

Actually here in NY where I run a large hotel and catering facility, they were big last year, but not so much in 2010.

I'm in NY also, central NY to be exact and no one at my party had ever heard of such a thing. It was a HUGE hit. :confused3

waughzee and daughtersrus both of the candy buffets look very nice. I'm glad this thread is up because my sister and I are planning a 40th anniversary party for my parents in November we are thinking about having a candy buffet of our parents' favorite candies.

We had a candy buffet at my son's indoor wedding reception. The bride's mother provided everything and asked me to provide some chocolate candy which I happily did.

I notice in many of the pics there are beautiful jars with glass lids. I think this would be very impractical. It just provides opportunity for lids to be broken. We just used glass or plastic bowls to hold candy.

The other thing that caught my eye was all the unwrapped candy. If using that type of candy please provide a scoop with each bowl/jar so that fingers do not dive into the entire bowl/jar of candy.

Some candy was eaten at the reception but the majority of it went home in little bags that the guests loaded up themselves. A ribbon tie with note from the couple was provided to close the bag.

I'm about 90% sure I'll be skipping dinner in favour of going to the candy store and getting fuzzy peach rings, sour watermelons, gummy bears and fun dips!

All the pictures are amazing, daughtersrus- that looks like an awesome party!:goodvibes

Those are so fun to look at. We're thinking of doing a chocolate bar, along with the cake. Most of our guest aren't really into the gummy/fruity candy so that'll work better for us. However, it is outside and in AZ! HA! So, it may not happen. Or, I'll decide that it looks too cool (if done right) not do the candy table. Hmmm. :)

A wedding I went to had a lot of small quotes/sayings scattered throughout the bowls of candy. Some cute ones:

"Too much of a good thing is wonderful" - Mae West

"Sweets and chocolates to put in your pockets"

For a wedding: "Love is like chocolate - so much sweeter when shared."

"All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt" - Charles M Schulz

I love the pictures. I want candy right now so badly. I have never heard of the Candy buffet thing before.

DD11 wants to do a "before going back to school" little party. I like this idea, feed them candy!!!!!!!!!!!!

daughtersrus-love the gum ball and jelly bean machines!!!!!!!!

Debbie7452-love the little touches, like the ribbon around some of the canisters.

I so want to do this now, as well as taste test while setting it up!!!

Waughzee, congratulations to your son. I wish him and you all the best. I love your candy buffet! I see some hidden Mickey's in it, and they're awesome. :sunny: You are so creative!

Daughtersrus, that looks like one heck of a party you threw! That candy buffet is fantastic looking. :)

We do about 100 wedding a year at my place and this years big hit..

Mash potatoe bar.. Yeah go figure..

It is funny seeing all the brides doing the same thing for about a year and the switch to whatever the hot trend it. Times change, but people don't :)

The sweet 16's still do the candy though.

Mashed potato bar is totally 2007 for me. My cousin got married in Spring Lake (on 7/7/07 too), and a mashed potato bar was one of the cocktail hour stations. From what I recall, we had a choice of mashed Yukon gold, sweet potato or red-skinned garlic. They put a dollop in a Martini glass, then topped it with whatever you wanted--stuff like bacon, cheeses, sour cream and chives as well as toppings for the sweet potatoes--brown sugar, raisins, nuts. I thought it was genius because one of these glasses would stuff almost anyone's tummy and for cheap, yet elegant.

Oh I am so going to have a candy buffet at my next party! I am craving some candy right now after seeing all these fabulous pictures! :thumbsup2

I've been contemplating one of these for our wedding reception as well, but sticking with the yellow theme we have...
These are beautiful! So glad to see this thread!

Love that idea!
