Folks, this is just a little heads up. I was in Goofy's yesterday at DTD and witnessed, once again, what I like to refer to as the "candy fiasco". There are all this neat little candy bins in Goofy's filled with really cool candy. You just get a little bag and put as much of each type you want in the bag. Then, comes the fiasco part. They weigh it!

The candy is very expensive and very heavy. It mounts up very quickly. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone fill up one of those bags and take it to the counter only to be told that it will be $48.00 for that little bag of candy. What? How can this be? I'm not paying $48.00 for a bunch of jellybeans. Then, the person walks out of the store. The candy goes in the trash. Disney cannot re-sell it. Now, I know that Disney doesn't pay much for the candy and it certainly isn't hurting them, but it seems a shame to see it wasted.

Please be aware that buying by the pound is going to cost you a mint. Also, while I'm on a roll, don't let your kids pull on the sticks and drop the candy out on the floor. It is a waste and a mess.

Okay. I'm done with my public service announcement for the day.

I paid $12 or $16 for a handful of gummy bears in a little metal suitcase. I hadn't looked at the price, figured it would be about $5. But I didn't want to make a stink, so I just ponied up the dough. I still have that stupid suitcase on a shelf because I won't throw it out after spending that much for it. I've convinced myself that it WILL come in handy some day.

No Candy Fiascos, I promise.

This is why we might get one of the powder sugar straw for our son. We always get a slushy. We like to go to the counter for pretzels, cookies, rice krispies, etc. We find those to be way more worth the money.

We still use our special slushy cup at home.

I was there last week and for the bulk candy at goofy's was 11.85 per pound.

I'm looking forward to getting the slushy cups for my kids...I saw a picture on another thread, and they look like a very cute souvenir.

Don't forget if your doing the DDP, you can get some of those things (not the bulk candy) on the plan as your snack. When we went last year I had read on the Dis boards that your snack credits can be used for so many other things besides a soda or a small popcorn and water bottles. So I took advantage of this when I was at Goofy's candy store in DTD! Whew Hooo! I got myself one of those rice krispie treats! It was fun to watch them make it and it was fun to get to eat it, of course I don't have the ability to eat sugar the way I use to when I was little so it took me a while to finish it off. LOL

I want to see them! Where did you get to see these? Sounds like something my DD and DN would be interested in. What am I saying! Its something that will stain their clothes and contains surgar, of course they would interested in it! :rotfl:

Eh...

I wouldn't pay $48 for a bag of candy either.

Its Disney's right to charge whatever they want, but that doesn't mean I have to buy it.

They should probably do a better job pricing the candy so people know what they're getting themselves into. But I suspect that is probably part of Disney's strategy.... suck you into feeling obligated to buy a $48 bag of candy once you're at the register.

I would walk out too if they asked me to pay $48 for some candy. :rotfl:

We stick with pretzel rods, rice krispie heads, and slushies. We get the other sweet stuff behind the counter, we don't get the loose candy. We have Wythe Candy company here in town and they have an outlet, so we get loose candy here.

There is a large sign above the candy that says how much it is per pound. I guess people just don't pay attention or just don't realize how quickly the weight goes up. It would be nice if they would put a scale where people could weigh the bag before getting to the register. Anyway, this is why I was giving the heads up.

Maybe Goofy's could display a 1 lb. bag so that people can at least have a visual of what they should try for. That way, if their bag is close to the one displayed, it won't be too much more. It would probably help with the waste.

My fiance & I are making welcome baskets for our wedding & were planning on buying little bags of various candys & snacks at Goofy's for the baskets. We took a look at the prices & decided to cut way back. I had no clue how much gummi bears & pretzels cost! :scared1:

So yes, it's always good to check out the prices before you go to checkout. It would be a waste to throw out perfectly good food.

I think that is a great suggestion! I'll mention it next time I'm there. Not that they will listen. Disney is not great about listening to suggestions.

Hi Peg,
I saw (and used) scales at the EPCOT and Downtown disney Goofy's Candy areas in March.
There are also signs with very clearly marked prices per pound. :confused3

We went to Goofys Candy Shop for the first time a few weeks ago and honestly I didnt see any signs about how much it was per pound, but I also wasn't looking, but that can tell you that they are very visible and signed. We took our bag up and it was $26.00:scared1: , wow, that was the first and LAST time we are going in there!

Hmm... maybe you could ask if there are suggestion cards or something. I think it would be a waste of breath to mention it to whoever checks you out, as they are probably just doing their job and have no control over how things work. It's kind of like when I have done various customer service jobs throughout high school and college and a lot of people would suggest things or throw stabs towards me if they were unhappy with something (although I'm sure you would not do that!) when really, there was nothing I could do about it.
I wonder if they would have those kind of cards you can fill out and mail or fax in... it does sound like a good suggestion to me! Even if they don't take the advice :confused3

Actually they do. A friend of mine, years back when his DD was below age one, he took her to WDW. The men's bathroom had NO Diaper changing table. He complained to the person in City Hall, he went back 6 months later, and Diaper changing tables were in the men's room.;) I complained about 7 months ago about the intertnational sodas at Ice station cool being empty, and 3 months later, they were all filled.:thumbsup2 I think you would have to complain to the manager of the store itself, to get results.;)

Yea those bags can be deceptive. I go to the exact same kind of Jelly Belly kiosk at my local grocery store and fill up the bag. Of course, it only costs like 6 bucks in the real world, but I eat out of that bag for about 4 weeks!

Be careful when in goofy's! You only need to fill the bottom of the bag! hehehe

Yes, it sure does add up. My DD's always make a stop at Goofy's. They buy a huge bag that costs a bundle, eat a few hand fulls, pack it up in their suitcase. Then, after it's collected dust for a month or 2 I throw it in the garbage. I think we are skipping Goofy's next trip.

Don't the bags have the marking on the outside showing "Pound, 2 pounds" etc. The ones I saw did?:confused3 Honestly, after some of the things I have seen people do-reaching in to bins with bare hands, dropping candy on the floor and putting it back etc... We don't buy candy from open bins.
