Planning on going to Disney for one night to get free dining just found out that Mickey’s not so scary Halloween party is on the night that I will be there. If i do the party and trick-or-treat at the Halloween party can I bring the candy home in my carry-on? Or do I need to check the bag?

Sure, you can bring candy in a carryon. Depending on your TSA agent, you may have to remove it for the Xray. I have traveled with a bag of nuts in my carry on through 3 airports lately. Only was questioned about it once - in Albuquerque.

I would put it in your checked bags. Tons of reports from last year of TSA at MCO sifting through individual pieces of candy.

It would be less work for you to put the candy in your checked bag. If you'd like to have some for the flight home, make sure it's in a separate bag which you can easily access in case TSA needs to take a look at it.

We were recently in Vegas and brought home personalized M&Ms for our kids. TSA just pulled us aside and had us open the bag and show them the candy. Took 5 minutes.

They looked at it and then nothing.

Tsa agents look at anything and sometimes nothing. No biggie. I don’t let those things stop me from bringing “legal” things on the plane.

Seattle tsa (normally logical and kind) had me scoop out a tiny bit of supplement powder to test last year. On the way home San Jose CA tsa wanted to peer at the supplement bottles. I’ve flown two round trips since and no one has cared about those bottles at all.

I'm someone who has high anxiety about flying. Anything I can do to make my trip a little less stressful through security is done. Why make it harder on yourself and everyone waiting in line behind you? My advice is put candy in your checked bags.

Unless you are not checking a bag... OP is going for 1 night.

My experience was that they pulled the bag out, looked at the bag of nuts, said OK, and off I went. No anxiety at all, just a couple of extra minutes. I am often waiting in line for people who don't understand the rules, set off the metal detector in the precheck lines, etc. They can wait a minute for the scanner to peer at my bag a bit longer!

MY DH often has scuba and camera equipment that merits a second look after scanning. It's not really a big deal.

That's why I have Pre Check. ;)

I have PreCheck as well, and in May on my outbound flight, they pulled me aside for a random screening. They apologized and explained these screenings were prompted by the computer system somehow. I had to wait a while, but maybe only 5 minutes. And I was way early for my flight.

Going to MCO last month we were told to remove food. Our bags were pulled aside to screen because I had liquid medications, which I had in separate plastic baggies. On our flight home there was no mention of removing food. My DS’s bag was pulled aside due to snacks. I would check large amounts of candy.

In April at MCO all passengers were required to remove all food from their carry on and place in a separate bin for screening. Never had that happen before, but it will affect the way I pack snacks in the future. Everything will go in one zip lock, which would have made security much less stressful.

I have never heard of having to remove food before. I'm glad I read this thread. I will definitely make sure to pack snacks in an easy to remove bag just in case.

I flew in and out of MCO in April (and Feb and August) and did not have to remove food in the precheck line.

In July in ALbuquerque she did pull the bag aside to look at my nuts! I always have that bag of nuts with me.

It seems a bit random.

Heck I brought dinner for 7 from EOS (minus drinks) on our last return trip through MCO, sandwiches, salads, cookies, chips which we ate at the gate. Normally we would have eaten in the lovely little courtyard outside security on the SWA side but we were flying out of the nightmare construction zone on the Jet Blue side and there was just no room to sit. TSA never batted an eye. This was in November of last year.

We just flew last week and in April so 3 different airports all together.

Ft. Myers wanted everything out of our carry on. What a PItA! I put things in zip lock bags for my sanity!

Hartford didn’t say boo but I pulled out my food I had in April and the TSA lady said oranges and apples coming thru. 2 weeks ago I don’t think I had any food other then slim Jim’s and I didn’t take them out.

MCO on Saturday, we and TSA precheck but one of the bags was tagged. The TSA guy said something dark “candy”. Um..no candy. He opened the bag and pulled out one of the 3 the dye shirts getting happy. Shoved it back in and gave me the bag. He said they get that a lot.

I would just zip lock bag it and pull it out if it’s in your carry on

They asked us to remove food at MCO last month as well. We also had similar experience at ORD in February if any packaging had metallic lining (goldfish, granola bars etc)

I received an email from JetBlue announcing additional screenings. All food and snacks need to be placed in one bin, electronics larger than a cell phone need to be placed in another. TSA Pre-check is exempted from this.

We have TSA Pre-check and didn’t need to separate anything. We had a box full of 10 Mickey gingerbread cookies and about 6 bags of Goofy Gummy Mickey’s in our carry on. I have brought back pounds of candy from MNSSHP and TSA has never said a word.

On a separate note, TSA at JFK asked me to open my carry on because my light up make up mirror and bag of chargers were on top of each other. The TSA agent advised never to put chargers on top of a mirror. The X-ray machine cannot identify it. Who knew?

We brought some snack foods on our July WDW trip and had to separate it for the TSA agents in Philly, but not for the return trip from MCO. Best to keep it separated for easy access.

When we departed MCO last year after attending MNSSHP, we all had to throw out our candy when going through TSA. They had just implemented a new policy that had to x-ray all the candy and were backed up by at least an hour. The guy holding up our line was a special needs 20 something that was from England and had bought all kinds of crazy American food that he wanted. He wasn't understanding how he was impacting the line and his family just wanted to keep him happy. The lady in front of us missed her flight. We were all close to missing ours, but just made it. It seemed to depend on what line you ended up in, but for us, it was a complete nightmare. This year, we are mailing ours back home.
