Can we burn a candle (Yankee Candle) in a nonsmoking room? Or will the smoke from that candle, set off the alarm or cause problems for other people who stay in that room after we leave?

I think they ask that you not burn candles in the room. Reason? Fire Safety.

The other issue I had never thought of was the issue of those who follow behind you and may be allergic or asthmatic. The lingering candle scent could trigger an attack. I was going to bring one but decided against it. There is also the fire safety issue.

No hotel is going to want you to have an open flame in one of their rooms. Why not get a candle melter? That way you get the nice scent without the flame.

You can do the candle warmer.. you will get the fragrance..without the flame... sure it wont do much for romance... :-(

When I purchased a candle in a resort gift shop I asked about burning it in the room and it was not as issue.

As for scent and allergies, I have severe allergies, therefore choose a clean scent. Disney rooms are not always as fresh and clean smelling as years ago.

A candle warmer or wax melter is a better idea! Thanks!

Get an electric candle warmer. no flame, no smoke, yet you can get the yankee candle scent you enjoy.

I wouldn't be too thrilled about it either!

If it is just the scent you are looking for how about one of those glade plug ins or pot pourri :confused3

If you're burning because you don't think the room is fresh enough upon check-in I believe housekeeping can do something about that. If it's romantic atmosphere that you're really after then I'm sure some can come up with some safer alternatives. I just wouldn't be comfortable burning a candle in a hotel room, but that's just me. :scared:

If you would like a candle for the smell, I would suggest a can of air freshener. We do this frequently and leave it behind for the people who come next.

Yankee Candle sells the plug in style air fresheners. Sorry, don't know the correct name. They are about $12. And they can be adjusted to release a little or a lot of fragrance. I use these at home.

Also, Bath & Body Works / White Barn Candle Co. sells a concentrated room spray that works great. Its a very small aerosol can. I use these in WDW. Cucumber Melon works great to freshen up the place (but be careful not to over do it - it is concentrated).

I burn candles in the bathroom at DVC resorts - so WDW resorts would be fine too...

Disney has a very good fire prevention system.

a candle is no more dangerous (probably less) than people smoking. you won't leave the candle and you certainly won't go to sleep with it on.

You need to get a 1-bedroom or up at OKW - you get a big bath tub - definitely big enough for 2.:wizard:

If it's romance then they make battery operated candles that flicker like a flame and some are even scented! My MIL got one for christmas and she loves it! Combine one of those with a Yankee car air freshner and you will be safe and smelling good!

I do have to say people forget candles all the time. That's one of the reasons fires happen.

We got married and Disney and you're crazy if you think we didn't come back to a room full of candles and flower petals!

Disney does have a strict policy about no open flames. Even for the weddings, the flames have to be covered. Easy enough- you get votive candles that the holders come above the flame. If you have a Yankee Candle that has been burned down a bit and the flame is covered, you should be safe. I wouldn't leave the candle out in the open when you're not in the room, as Mousekeeping might throw it out.

The other thing you could look for- Disney Weddings uses them- are the flame out candles. If they fall over or are knocked, the flame goes out insted of catching anything else on fire.

An activated sprinkler system to put out a bathroom fire makes kind of a mess for the occupants of the room next door and underneath. Plus all the affected rooms are out of commission until they get repaired and cleaned.

I really don't think that housekeeping is allowed to throw out your personal belongings, candle or not. If housekeeping threw out my candle, whether I was intending to burn it or not, I'd be on the phone with management very quickly.

Something to think about if you end up in an adjoining room, is the smell going over to your neighbor's room. Perhaps they won't like the scent you have chosen, or could trigger their allergies/asthma.

Good point. In your house you're not affecting others - in a hotel the others are, essentially, a closet away. Any scented candle can make others feel ill or worse, aggrevate their asthma or allergies. It really isnt thoughtful to your neighbors....save it for home or atleast use unscented if you must (I think those fake, flickering ones are pretty dang cool!:thumbsup2 )
