Candlelight Processional tips for afternoon arrival?

I'm taking my wife and kids (6 and 8) to Disneyland for the first time in December and I'm determined to see part of the candlelight processional.

The challenge is that, while we'll be there most of the week, we'll arrive about 3pm at the earliest (but more like 4pm) on the Sunday of the processional. So I need some advice on how to get some standing spots without waiting all day.

I read a tip online to enter the park after the processional has gathered at the front once the main show starts, and you can grab a standing spot on that side as the cast members shift traffic.

Do you think that would actually work? If we got there earlier, could we watch the processional go down main st closer to the castle then exit the park and re-enter to do that? Or do you have other advice on how to see it without being able to camp out all day?

Thanks!

The difficulty with your plan is that your kids probably won't be able to see because you would be packed in at the back of a viewing area. If you lift them up to see, you will block the view of anyone around/behind you. If you want to see the first show, it would be better to look for spots when you arrive, then take turns holding the spots and taking the kids to eat or go on rides. If you can wait for the second show, the line starts forming on Main Street right after the first show starts. If you don't really need a great view, but just want to experience the show, then you wouldn't need to wait long for the first show. Talk to the CMs working in the area about where to be and when.

Thanks for the info. If the line for the second show starts so soon and so close to the first show, can you experience some of the first show while you wait?

You can hear it. We couldn't see much when we did this.

Do the second show. They start to line it up after the first show starts. You only have to wait a couple hours versus waiting all day.
