my dh wants to do the candlelight processional dinner package but my ds is a picky eater so i dont want to do the expensive one . has anyone done the norway package?? how is the food there? and is it really worth it? i dont care for the fantasmic dinner package because the seats arent all that good, we got better seats last time we were there without spending the extra cash on a dinner my kids dont really enjoy...

Not sure what is included in the dinner package for Norway, and though I think that the food is fabulous, it may not be the best place for a picky eater. Is Germany in Tier 1? I don't remember off hand, but they might be a better choice with their buffet.

My DW and I had a Candlelight Processional package last December and chose Restaurant Akershus. This is an all-you-can-eat restaurant which includes a cold buffet with gravlaks (cured salmon), makerel, herring, salads (shrimp, cucumber) and cheeses. Hot entrees are ordered through your server. I first ordered the trio of sausages (venison, rabbit and pork) which was very good. My DW had the grilled Atlantic salmon, which was excellent. Needless to say, I had to try one other item, so I ordered the venison stew. It too was very good. All in all, the restaurant was wonderful. The service was excellent and the décor was comfortable. I do need to say this… if you are not the adventurous type, then this restaurant may not be for you. If your children are very picky when it comes to food, you may want to find another place to eat. The chef at Restaurant Akershus creates food that you will find in Norway. Other words, a lot of fish and root vegetables. I must admit that I enjoyed it very much.

If it's just the fact that your DS will not eat well, most all the resturants have a kids meal that should be fine. We ate in Mexico last year and picky DS had a kids meal with a burger &chips. he got desert the same as us. What about Garden Grill. They have children's selections too. That being said, I am not sure we will do the package again. We were really rushed through the meal, ended up with more food than we really wanted, and still had a really long line to get in. The stand by line was longer but that night everyone got in. The show is wonderful and worth the trouble but next time we are going to try it on our own.

We are thinking of doing the Garden Grill package. We usually do not do packages, but we are only there 3 nights (through a weekend) and have read that the weekend nights are the hardest to get in. Looking at the menu, it looks only to be a few dollars more than the usually price, so will give it a shot.

Dd and I did the Garden Grill CP pkg. last year and it was wonderful. The food was good and the service wonderful. If you do book this restaurant, then be sure to leave enough time to walk over to CP!! We really just took our time, forgetting how long it can take you to walk to the American Pav. area. So, be sure to leave about 20 minutes to get there. That's walking at a nice pace, not rushing.

My Dsis, BIL and 2 nieces did Akershus for the CP pkg. BIL and one niece, who adore seafood, were happy little gluttons. Dsis, who loves seafood (but not cold seafood) and other niece, felt the meal was a disaster. Lots of fish/seafood dishes, many served cold, and Dsis, who IS a lamb eater, said the lamb was bad...the traditional prep gave it a funny flavor, and it was almost like a dried, shaved meat. We are doing Biergarten (also a level 1) with my DD who is a fairly "selective" eater (picky sounds like she's having a little hissy fit, when in reality I don't eat things I don't like, so after trying foods, why should kids get labeled when there are things they don't like? Picky eaters eat chicken, but only baked chicken, for example...selective eaters don't like chicken, period!) ANyhow (off the soapbox) I think there will be enough selections of wursts (we are calling them sausage and hot dogs) to fill her tummy, and there's always dessert to fill her up on- it's vacation, after all! Anyhow, if you have concerns, I'd go with Garden Grill or Biergarten.

By the way, yes, I think the CP pkg is worth it. We'd never do the Fantasmic package, because you can carry your dinner into the venue and spend the hour's wait sitting, eating supper and visiting with other folks. At CP I have seen people standing in line for hours, hoping to get into one of the CP shows (dinner pkg seats are reserved, regardless of how many ressies there are...stand-by gets whatever remains for seats). IF you are going in the middle of the week early in Dec., you might want to try getting in line 30mins prior to showtime and hoping for a seat. If you're going on a weekend OR close to Christmas (i.e., after the 16th) and you don't want to hang out, standing in a non-moving line for over an hour, listening to a show you can't see, hoping to get into the NEXT show, make the CP ressie...you have to eat dinner anyhow, and while you might not choose to spend QUITE that much for dinner elsewhere, you certainly could...and you'll be guaranteed a seat for the show without waiting in line too long!

thank you all so much...I'll let you know what we decided when we get back...
