Candlelight Processional and 5 year old?

Hi! We will be in WDW in a few weeks and I would love to see the Candlelight Processional. I booked the lunch package for seating at the 5 pm show, but I'm now second-guessing my decision. I am traveling alone with DS5 and having the guaranteed seats will definitely help - I cannot wait too long on a line with him. But I'm having doubts he will be able to sit through the entire show, which I guess is ok. We are eating at R&C as part of the package and I know I'm paying a little more than I would if we simply ate there for lunch. And I sort of have hopes that we will make it to the preferred viewing area to see Illuminations . . . really depends on his energy level.

I am just wondering if someone can share their experience taking a 5 year old to the Candlelight Processional? Thank you so much!

The year we did a package my DD was 5. We lasted through only a portion of the show. But part of the problem was it was sort of sprinkling and we were in an uncovered area. Still worth it.

There is the full show with Geena Davis published here on the dis. Watch it and see for yourself. I think it really depends on the kid. If he is calm and used to low key activities for 30 minutes (church for example), you should be fine. If he is a go-go-go kinda kid you may have issues.

Can your child sit through a 1+ hr church service at home? Some 5yr olds can, but some kids can't. Kids aren't really expected to ba as quiet as they might be in church (depending on the church), but it can be a long boring show for a boy who really needs to get up and move around.

That being said, we went last year even though my DS9 did not want to go, and he says that he never ever wants to go again.

EVEN with Guaranteed seats thru the dining pkg, you still need to line up about 30 mins before.The show is similar to a Church service.Relgious readings and music ( not the Rudolph the rednosed reindeer variety).If your child is able to or has sat thru a church service at home, he will be fine..Mine at that age was not able to and I knew that and didn't try it

Thanks all! I'm watching the Geena Davis You Tube video of CP now. Yup - it's not happening! He will never sit through this! I cancelled the package and snagged a lunch ressie at Via Napoli instead. We'll ride the new TT, take in some of the storytellers, enjoy the decorations and stake out our own spot for Illuminations if he makes it that late.

As much as I want to see it live, the video is great! That will have to be it for me this year!

If the mood strikes you can absolutely hear and see some of it if you just hang out in front of the American Pavilion.I sat with my daughter at that age over there and was at least able to hear it

It's a lovely show, and it's not really necessary to have a continual view of the stage to enjoy it. The reader stands behind a lectern, the choir stands on stage. There's no dancing, characters, video, etc. Just singing and reading the story of Christmas.

You can clearly hear all of it in the entire American Adventure area. Loads of people just hang out behind the seating area and enjoy the readings and music, while their kids run around and play. The last time I was there, there were even some tables and chairs in front of the AA building.
