Candlelight Dining 1/2 Party?

So we are 4 but only 2 want to go to the Candlelight Processional on our Epcot day. Since we don't want to line up at noon, we are interested in making reservations for Candlelight Dining. However, 2 of the party went last year and don't care to do it again. How do we handle this? Do we make a Candlelight Dining reservation for 4 and then request only 2 tickets? Do we try to make two separate reservations and then ask to be seated together? (Current choice - Garden Grill - isn't available for reservations, but my guess is that it will be by 60 days out).
