I think we've decided on DL instead of WDW for this coming February.
Can anyone offer some insight, comments, suggestions, comparisons, etc...?

I'm having a hard time deciding whether to book:

a View Suite at Carousel Inn and Suites

or

2 connecting rooms at the Candy Cane Inn

We are a family of 8... 2 adults, 6 kids who will be ages 5 months, 5, 8, 8, 9, and 15 at the time of travel... although our teen most likely IS NOT going with us this trip. We will be bringing a stroller for our infant and would like to be within walking distance of the parks as it would be easier than waiting on a shuttle, collapsing the stroller, getting all of our things out, etc... but we would still like to have a shuttle available for use in case of rain, extreme cold, etc... We also plan to take advantage of the free breakfast which I believe both hotels offer. We will not have a car so would like to be close to restaurants, etc... - close to a grocery store/or drug store would be a bonus!

Thanks so much!

We stayed at the Carousel Inn in the View suite with 5 adults. The setup does allow for doors to be closed and privacy to be had for almost all the rooms. The only thing I disliked was the fact that there was only 1 bathroom. You get 2 tvs, 2 fridges, 2 microwaves, a table and chairs, couch, and a view of Disneyland. We ended up on the 2nd floor and were able to see the fireworks from the room. Walking time took less than 10 minutes, since you usually had to wait for the light to change before crossing the street.

I have never been to the Candy Cane.

Those are 2 very good choices, each has it's own pros and cons. I think for me, it would come down to price.

The Carousel will have a shorter walk and a great view as long as you request the 4th floor. Anything lower and you will not be able to see much because of the wall around DL. While I believe the Carousel is on the ART (Anaheim Resort Transportation) I'm not sure if anyone uses it. By the time you have walked to the shuttle pick up, you might as well just walk on across the street and to your room.

The Candy Cane has a better breakfast and it's own shuttle but the walk will be farther. I don't know anything about the rooms though because I haven't stayed there.

Rooms at the Candy Cane Inn are great! Never stayed at the other hotel.

Hi there. Keep in mind that the Candy Cane Inn will not guarantee conneting rooms. You can request it but it is not a given. That is one reason we picked a suite hotel for our family. It does look like a great hotel though!

We have stayed at both and would agree, Candy Cane Inn wins hands down. We found 1 bathroom to be an issue and though we didn't get adjoining rooms on one of our stays and CCI, they were next door and we kept the doors open much of the day so it was fine. The rooms are lovely, the breakfast is good and it is nice to have the shuttle when you are beat at the end of the day.

Only 16 more days and we will be there again!

We just got back from the Candy Cane Inn. The people were nice. Our rooms didn't connect but we did not ask for them too. we had 3 rooms side by side and it was nice enough to leave them open most of the time. The breakfast was nice and you could sit at pool side to eat. They had 3 kinds of cereal, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, apple juice, orange juice, bagels, toast, danish and muffins. They also had apples bananas and oranges. Plenty of everything. I figured that with 9 of us that probably saved about $50 a day. Also the shuttle was easy to get on and off with the stroller and was easy to catch. In fact the "bus" was the 2.5 yr olds favorite ride of the day.
It is also free and if you use art I have heard it is $3 per person so that saved $$$ too. The rooms were a little small but were well kept and clean. Also the toilet and tub are separate from the sink and mirror so helped with alot of people getting ready. We would stay there again.
