This is a story that Susan and I at the Brit's Guide have just got involved with, trying to help a family with a 10-year-old boy who has cancer to organise his 'wish' for a holiday to Disney World.

Basically, Joshua, from Borrowash in Derbyshire, has been battling brain cancer since he was 4 and his parents have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel any further treatments and operations (he has had three major brain operations) as they are are not able to stop the tumours completely and he is just getting sicker and sicker.

Their one hope - and Joshua's wish - is that they can get him well enough (away from the intensive chemotherapy) to take him to Orlando for a visit with Mickey and Co (and the Kennedy Space Center - he is a big rocket fan), and a Trust Fund has been set up for him by family and friends as it is obviously going to cost a lot to take a child with his serious range of disabilities (see story below). They are working with one Wish foundation but no-one really knows what the outcome will be at the moment.

We have offered to help in any way we can if and when they can reach Orlando, but obviously they do need as much help, good wishes and prayers as we can muster. Here are the links to the stories about him in the Derby Evening telegraph, with the latter one giving details of his trust fund.

Our heart goes out to Joshua, his mother and family, but if anyone has any other suggestions of how we might help, please feel free to post.

If you can guarantee publicity then a company such as a car hire firm might be willing to give them something for free.

This story was on our local news station this week, its a brave decision by his family to let him stop treatment but sometimes the fight just goes out of you. I really hope they get to go on their dream holiday and have some wonderful memories out of it.

what a brave family, hope they get there dream holiday.

Also I'm sure Disney gets asked for free stuff all the time but they might be willing to organise a special character meet away from the crowds and for a bit longer than the average person gets or a special behind the scenes tour.

Frankly, Disney are bombarded by requests like this all the time and rarely respond to individual cases, preferring to donate to various different charities and research programmes.

The Ginns family are hoping they can get the trip subsidised by the When You Wish Upon A Star foundation in the UK, but they are still likely to have a lot of expense of their own (hence the Trust Fund).

Joshua also has to be able to put up with some intense physiotherapy and phsyical rehab after 5 months in hospital, so I fear it may be touch and go before his cancer flares up again :(

Please keep hoping and praying for him, because it really would be wonderful if we can get him and his family to Florida.

What a brave family:hug: Hopefully they will all get the trip they want.

is there another way to donate to the Appeal....there are no branches of the derbyshire building society near me :confused3

We believe donations can be made to his Trust Fund via the Derbyshire Building Society head office at: Derbyshire Building Society, Duffield Hall, Duffield, Derby DE56 1AG. Cheques should be made payable to the Joshua Ginns Trust Fund, account no. 331259107.

If you find they are able to make the trip, please contact me. I would like to give Joshua a little something to add to the magic of his trip. He will be in my prayers!

Peggy...your such a kind lady...how thoughtful of you.:)
