Cancelling within 31 day window foolish question for you!

NEVER AGAIN! Our very first trip home and we foolishly decide to invite DH's sister, brother and parents. Not only invite them, but reserve 3 studios at BWV for each of them! I only agree to do this if we charge BIL and SIL for the points because we have virtually no relationship with these people and they have never done a thing for us. I kept nagging (as any DVC point protecting wife would do) DH weeks before the 31 day window was coming that SIL and BIL had to pay us before hand to ensure if they cancelled we would not lose our precious points. SIL paid and BIL refused. Bull headed jerk. DH vouched for him he would pay regardless. Fast forward to 10 minutes ago. MIL calls and says BIL wants us to get him a room (studio BW view) this coming Saturday and Sunday night instead of what we have booked which is Sunday and Monday night for him. This is at BWV Labor Day weekend.
So here is my ridiculous question for you all after all that ranting: MS will not allow me to change those nights, will they? Because really what I would have to do is try to book Saturday night and cancel Monday night, but I am NOT allowed to cancel any nights within the 31 day window. Am I right? This is my first time and MS is closed! I hope I am making sense??? Please help and if anyone has any voodoo dolls for in-laws, please send me a PM.

You can change or cancel within 31 days, any points leftover would go into holding. In your case, you are swapping a Monday for a Saturday, if it's available it will take more points so you will not have any holding points. Good Luck!

Debbie thank you. My use year is August (knew I forhot to mention something) and the points I think I used from this trip are from last years use year. I suppose I will need to take a chill pill and call in the morning. But thanks again, you rock!

Wether or not you can change the ressie depends on availability as well. Hope you get a bit of pixie dust and can change, but get the money from him up front since it is "costing" you more. He needs to know that your cost is greater for Saturday as opposed to Monday.

There probably isn't a chance in Heck to get him the BW View studio for Sat. You really want to put out MORE points for this guy and get him Sat night instead of Monday????

Just tell him you can't do it and tell him to try to make a cash reservation for Sat night.

There is also a technical issue here. You will not be permitted to change the reservation until the points have been carefully calculated and ALL members of the family have paid in full in cash.

This is the little-known, but fully understood after the fact "You can't choose your family rule."

[ETA: All kidding aside, I would not even call MS until BIL is paid in full for the points you already have at risk. That way, when he cancels because you couldn't get his BW view, you'll be covered.]

hey you are smarter than most. lots would have gotten a 2-bedroom for their family - only to have BIL a day before say he wasn't going.....

so you are doing fine.

as you have been told - she you are changing to a day that needs more points - then it doesn't even fall into the 31 day window.

now if you cancel this entire reservation it does.

then at 60 days (and be sure to do it at 60 days) before your next vacation you can use those points.

at 60 days any unused villa are given to CRO. so you will be in direct competition with the public for these villas.

I agreed with JimMIA get the money FIRST - but definitely ask MS today.

what you wanna bet he doesn't pay.....you and your husband are rich or you couldn't afford DVC....

Ahhhh. If only I had a point for every post that starts out "NEVER AGAIN". In Texas they say "Remember the Alamo". In DVC we say "NEVER AGAIN!!" with feeling!

FWIW, you may not be able to make the change - chances of any studio at BWV still being available over this Labor Day weekend are not good. I would be shocked if a BW view was still available.

How about you tell BIL that the only thing left is a campsite at FtW? Tell him it's strictly a "bring your own bed kind of a deal and isn't it awful that the forecast is calling for rain?"

I think the "roach motel" somewhere off of 192 way past Kissimmee might take him if he doesn't have a tent. He can ride the LYNX bus back and forth - only takes 2 transfers I think.

Seriously, hope it all works out.
