Cancelling Question??

We're waiting to pass ROFR, but there are still some questions I have...

1. If I book a trip on points in April and can't go, how long do I have to cancel that?
2. Do I lose the points or I think I have a certain amount of time to use them? How long?

What is your Use Year (month)? That determines a lot when canceling. If you cancel more than 30 days before check-in, you just get your points back. You have to use them by the end of your year, or bank them by the banking deadline. If you cancel from 30 to 1 day in advance, your points become Holding Points -- they are more restricted in that you can't bank them, and you can only use them for a reservation 60 days or less from arrival. If you cancel on check-in day or don't show, you lose all of your points.

My use year is April, and I was just wondering because I'm a teacher flight costs can be crazy at school vaca time. So I was wondering if we planned on going in April and made my ressies, but couldn't get flights by December, could I cancel and plan to go in August? Did that make sense?LOL

Yes, as long as you cancelled more than 30 days prior to your arrival date, you should be fine. You can reschedule for August and even then...if something happened and you saw you weren't going to be able to make that date, if you cancel more than 30 days prior, you are ok. With an April UY, you have until the end of November to bank your points so you could do that and then just use them in the next UY (April thru March)
