Cancelling one night?

I am looking to take a long weekend trip 2/22-2/25 to visit DD who will be part of the DCP. Room availability at a decent price is minimal this close to travel dates, so I have a few questions.

1. Art of Animation has availability for LM room Thurs 2/22 - Mon 2/26, but I only need the room 2/22- 2-25. Can I book the room and then take off the last night?

2. Will more room at the values and/or moderates possibly open up closer to the dates?

1. Maybe. They will require it to be rebooked, so if they do not have availability it won't work. They try to avoid orphan units.

You can, but wait a week between booking the room and calling to drop the last night.

I'm confused, you just can't book it for the exact dates that you need, since there is availability? Is there a minimum night requirement for that type of room?

The Disney bookings can be annoying trying to work out certain dates. Disney would prefer to avoid having rooms empty for one day, so sometimes they will only show availability for a certain set of dates. It also happens if you want to book a cheaper category (ie I tried for a 7-night standard view at WL, no availability. But I could get either a 7-night pool view, or 6-night standard.)

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. Weird. It would seem to me that Disney's policy of being finicky about having single open dates (understandable, from a business standpoint) would actually work against them in many cases? Such as the OP's situation, I would definitely book for the range that Disney allows me and then call later to drop a day is needed. So in that regard, Disney now has the same single day open, except they now have less days to fill it (depending on when the modification call was made) as opposed to having a longer time for others to book it if I was allowed to book my exact dates in the first place. Head-scratcher, to me anyway....

Except there is zero guarantee you will be able to do this. The days of being able to book a certain date range and then just simply call and drop nights is over. WDW closed this loophole about two years ago. If OP decides to book Feb. 22 - 26, there is no guarantee she will be able to call in and drop the night of Feb. 25. The only way she will be able to do it is if, somehow, separate room inventory showing her exact dates becomes open or if a supervisor does an override. Or, she can simply pay for Feb. 22 - 26 and not stay the night of Feb. 26. Expensive choice, but it may be that or not having a room at all.

OP, rooms may open up at the 30 day mark when package balances are due, so you can definitely keep checking. Or consider a DS resort?

You can certainly call and try, and some have been successful. But there's no guarantee they will allow it.

That is also the Princess half marathon weekend, so availability may be little to none and Disney may be stricter about cancelling a night.

Packages have to be paid at 30 days. So there is a chance some rooms will open up when people decide they don’t have the money or something else has come up.
