We are on the meal plan and have booked all of our table service meals back in September for our March trip. The only 2-credit meal is the Hoop-de-doo. My question is, if we decide to cancel a reservation while we are there, when do we have to do it, and are there any penalties for doing it?

Thank you for asking.....unclear on this myself with the new policy....

The new penelty of $10 per person for some reservations canceled with less than 24 hour notice applys to reservations made on or after 10/26. Some resturants had a penetly prior to that (CRT, the princess meal in Norway, California Grill are the ones I can remember now). I believe most of these including Hoop-Dee-Doo have a 48-24 hour cancelation window. I would check the Disney website directly to confirm the exact time frame. Most reservations made in September will not carry a monitary penelty.

Penelties aside, t is considered good etiquite to cancel any reservation as soon as you know you will not keep it so that others can take advantage of the open time slot.

Enjoy your trip

The dinner shows such as the Hoop De Doo have always had a stricter cancellation/penalty policy even before the new Signature restaurant and character dining guarantees were put in place. You are charged the full amount if you don't cancel your Hoop De Doo res within the specified timeframe which is either 24 or 48 hours in advance. You mentioned 2 credits so I assume you're planning to use your dining credits. However, you had to give them credit card information when you booked so that will be charged. The information is on your reservation confirmation.

I just made my summer dining reservations and was told that I had to cancel by the time the dining reservations close the night before, so 10pm in the summer, for the two signature restaurants that required a credit card hold.

If you made reservations PRIOR TO October 26, 2011, this policy does not apply.

If all the OP's reservations were made prior to October 26 then the only reservations with a cancellation deadline and no-show fee are the dinner shows (including Hoop de Doo), CRT, Akershus, California Grill, Victoria & Alberts and special packages like the Fantasmic package. The prepaid reservations (dinner shows and CRT) had credit card holds for dining plan users. But if you don't show up for them, they charge the credit card the full amount.

For The Hoop-Dee-Doo if you do not give them 48 hrs notice there will be a full charge to the credit card.

I am not sure how this works with the DDP, do they just take the dining credits away?

No, they don't take the dining credits. But DDP users still have to give a credit card. If they don't cancel and don't show up the card will be charged the full cash price for the meal.
