Cancelling Borrowed Pts

Can someone please help me figure this out!

We want to book for March Break 2014 and would need to borrow pts., our UY is December. If we borrow pts. from our upcoming Dec. 2013 pts. and need to cancel prior to Dec. 2013, the borrowed pts. will then need to be used by the end of THIS UY, which would be prior to end of Nov. 2013, is that correct?

What if we cancel into 2014? What happens to the pts. we borrowed?

first things first.

your dec 2013 UY pts are valid for stays from dec 1, 2013 to nov 30, 2014. march 2014 falls within those dates. so you are NOT borrowing those pts. those are "current" pts.

if you cancel your reservation more than a month in advance - you can still bank those 2013 UY pts through the end of july 2014. if you cancel on short notice, the pts turn into holding pts and are more limited in how you can use them.

if you need more pts, you can borrow from your dec 2014 allotment.

if you bank or borrow pts, those pts cannot be moved again and will expire at the end of their new UY. so if you borrowed dec 2014 UY pts into your 2013 UY, those pts would expire on nov 30, 2014.

and just to be clear: when you call in april 2013 to book your home resort for march 2014, you can use banked 2012 UY pts + current 2013 UY pts + borrowed 2014 pts.

PP is correct, you would not be borrowing.

Your March 2014 trip will be taking place during your December 2013 UY (which runs December 1st, 2013 to November 30th, 2014).

You can book your March 2014 trip now (if you're in your 11 month window), but you won't be borrowing points for the transaction.

That's just not right. Like Charles said, the December '13 points are good for any STAYS between 12/1/13 and 11/30/14. You do NOT have to borrow anything if the stay you are trying to book falls between those dates.

Doesn't matter that the dates are still nearly a year away. Point usage is based upon when the points will be USED...not when the reservation is made.

If you were to borrow those points, they would only be valid for STAYS which occur between now and 11/30/13. After 11/30/13 any points which have not been used to complete a reservation would be forfeit.

Ok, thanks! I see now what is happening! I only have 180 pts coming, so I need to use some of the pts. I have currently too!

Do I need to call MS to do that then? They are not banked to date, they are good to Nov. 2013.

You don't have to call MS to bank points. You can do it online.

Thanks everyone! Got it all figured out! I just assumed it was asking me to borrow from our next batch of pts. but it wasn't, it was from our 2014 pts. which we didn't need to do!
