Cancelling a ressie and Holding points

Please tell me again-at what point can you cancel a ressie w/out going into "Holding Points"?

Also, is it from the first or last day of the ressie?

31 days from check-in.

I think it's 31 days (or more) prior to your check-in day to avoid having your points go into the holding account. Between 30 days and 1 day prior to check-in, your points go in to holding.

31 days or more, points are returned to your account with the same status they originally had at the time you made the original reservation: Regular pts, Banked pts, or Borrowed pts.

At 30 days to 1 day prior to check-in, points are returned to your account as Holding Points, regardless of the original status they had when you made the reservation.

On day of check-in, all points are considered used, so if you cancel that day, or check our early, none of the points are returned at all.

I have a hard time remembering whether it's 30 days or 31 days but I just made a new reservation a few days ago so MS' speech about cancelling 31 days prior to check-in was still fresh in my mind.
