I have my family booked in 4 cabins on the dream for August. When summer 2022 comes out I want to move the cabins to next August

can this be done? Do they have to refund me and I have to wait for the money. Or can it just be transferred

Yes, it can be transferred. At least they used to allow this. Hopefully things will remain the same once cruising begins again.

We had an Alaska cruise booked for this summer. I called DCL and told them I wanted to move the cruise to a new date [different ship, different itinerary]. Not a problem at all. The reservation number stayed the same. Because the new cruise was cheaper I did not have to put more money down, but if it was more expensive and therefore a higher deposit I would have had to put extra deposit down.

Note the key is that you want to MOVE it or RESCHEDULE it to a new date. This keeps the same reservation number and just moves everything along.

Do NOT say that you want to CANCEL and book a NEW cruise. That will cancel the current one (giving you a refund) and book a brand new one (with a new reservation number and new deposit due).

It was important for us to do it this way because (1) we have an OBB discount to preserve, and (2) we are from Canada, so any refund we receive means we lose money because of the foreign exchange.
