Cancelling a day from my ressie

I'm trying to take my nephew to WDW for his first time. His parents hate kids, crowds and all things Disney. They are letting him go on the trip which we are going to plan for late January. BUt they are not planners and will not give me exact dates for awhile. I would like to make ressies for about 6 days around the time that we will go and then cancel whatever days we don't need once they decide when he can go. Can I just cancel a day off my ressie or do I need to cancel the whole thing and rebook?

I've canceled just a day at the beginning of my reservation and there was no problem.
