I am always searching for a deal and when I miss out, it makes me crazy. So, we got the Disney Visa a few months ago to enjoy the perks...however, seeing that many people got the 200 reward points with 1st purchase that can be exchanged for a $200 GC.....I had to call and say that I was cancelling until I got a deal. They said that while they are sad to lose my business, my card would be cancelled at my request. And so it is...now I'll just keep my eyes peeled for mailings from Disney Visa in hopes of the same deal.......that would pay for an extra OOP TS meal or 2!! :hippie:

I sent an email complaining about that very thing...as a day 1 member getting a pin!!!! Well they gave me $ 200 reward dollars! So I am quite happy! I love Disney and believe in their product!

Yes, it stinks because I got 40.00, and the next week saw the 200.00 offer. I was mad, and they didn't do anything about it for me either. Now they have sent one to DH and offered him the $200.00, but we don't need the card so we didn't apply. :rolleyes1

I got in when they were having the $40 offer and not 2 weeks later the $200 offer came out. I complained and only got an additional $25 in rewards and a "we appreciate your business" email, lol!

I don't threaten to cancel because they'll just do what they did to the OP and cancel the card. Even though they should really try to keep your business instead, I can't believe that they would just cancel without even trying to work with you.

All I can say is WOW. Entitlment run rampant. I cannot fathom calling someone and threatening to cancel if I don't get x, or y that someone else got, when I am NOT entitled to that deal. That is like my six year old throwing afit because soemone else got to be line leader or got a sticker and she didn't. I just could not act that way over afew dollars someone else got as an incentive to become a customer.

BTW: CC companies are tightening up on reissuing user canceled cards. You may have areally hard time getting a Disney Visa agian since you cancelled one.

Not a very good analogy. Only one person can be a line leader, but Chase can offer rewards to anyone they want. If you got a card specifically for the rewards, it's not "throwing a fit" to say "if I'm not actually getting the good rewards I expected, there's no reason for me to keep this card."

Well how about throwing a fit because someone else got a sticker on thier first day at a new school and she didn't becuase she is not the new kid? It is still unacceptable fro her to act that way. This particular reward was intended for new customers ONLY. It is not something to which an old customer is entitled. I could see complaining if you are not getting rewards you are eligble for, or they were not offering what you felt were adequate rewards, but not just becuase someone else got something you didn't. I would punish my child for acting that way, so I cannot justify doing it myself.

I'm joining the i can't believe you did that ranks (or one other person)

I am always looking out for a good deal, but i would never make credit decisions based on $200 worth of cash, or toasters, or stuffed animals. Seriously. Your credit score took a hit for applying, it took another hit for canceling. If you were satisfied with the card when you applied, then why cancel because someone else got a better offer. Maybe their credit score was higher than yours...... If you were not satisfied with the offer, why apply??

Oh well. That aspect of it simply isn't a big deal to me. The bigger problem is going to be the hit to her credit score.

I didnt threaten to cancel at all. I simpley asked nicely and got $100 rewards credit.

Maybe you should teach that to your 6 year old next time they want to be line leader and throw a fit.

the whole mentality just bothers me. I think as a society we need to realize that we are not always entitled to the best of everything simply for existing. I see so many kids every day who are taught this at home and end up in some pretty bad situations before they realize that the world doesn't feel the same way.

And I think that when a business is offering a deal to a new client, there's nothing wrong with saying "Hey, I'm an existing client, what can you do for me?" And deciding not to do business with them any longer if you aren't satisfied with the answer.

In theory, and when it doesn't involve long term financial implications, I agree. But in this case was it worth two hits to a credit score to take her toys and go home? If you want a credit card and are satisfied with the terms when you sign up, then great. But to apply then cancel just because someone else got a better offer doesn't seem quite right to me.

A 10% coupon at the Gap? Sure. Messing up your credit score for nothing? No way.

I prefer to teach her to do the RIGHT thing, and pitching a fit to get your way, or pushing to get soemthing youdon't deserve even if you "ASK NICELY" is not it. Better to teach her that she is NOT the center of the earth, she is NOT entitled to ANYTHING she didn't earn, and that she should work hard to earn the things she wants. Throwing a fit might work once, but eventually it gets you labled a "problem", and even when you ask nicely for something you ARE entitled to you are not likely to get it.
If you want to see hte results, try teaching YOUR kids to trow a fit to get want they want.
