I know there is no real answer to this question but I thought I would ask about other experiences. I live in Houston and I am safe and dry. I feel rather selfish thinking about my cruise but we are supposed to leave on Friday. I have the 6:25am flight confirmed. Does anyone has any experience with what will happen? As I have a ticket will they bump us off for other people trying to get somewhere? Southwest got the FAA to let them get 500 passengers out of Hobby yesterday so I am hoping there won't be a ton of people there. I have trip insurance but I am not able to book another flight until mine is cancelled otherwise I have to pay for the other flight. ( Gotta love insurance :) )

Make sure you check in exactly 24 hours in advance and get to the airport well in advance. If you decide to push it getting there late you DO risk them giving away your seat. But as a rule they would ask for volunteers (hopefully with compensation) before randomly bumping people.

They won't bump you just because someone else had an earlier flight that was cancelled. As long as you check in online in a timely manner and are at the airport on time to check in there. If it were me, I'd probably plan to be early to the airport.

All the people whose flights were cancelled, are on standby now. As long as you show up in a timely manner to claim your seat, it won't be given to anyone else.

Agreed that they won't bump you. My wife and I had a flight that was scheduled for the first day that Seattle started flying after 9/11. There were 3 days worth of cancelled flight passengers waiting on standby in the airport, but everyone with a ticket for that day got their tickets honored.

Keep an eye on the airport and if it closes try and rebook at another airport asap. You may have to drive to a nearby or not so nearby airport.
Good luck and prayers for Texas.

Thank you all so much. We will see if the airports are able to open. At this point we are trapped at the house as all the roads are flooded. We are so lucky and so many others in Houston are not as lucky.

Just in shock at how wide spread and devastating this storm is! Good luck with getting out!

The airport isn't supposed to open until Friday, I believe. Hoping there is no damage to the runways from the water. Wishing you the best!

Yes. We flew to D.C. that day out of SeaTac and had no worries with our flight.

Maybe you're in the same neighborhood as my dear friend. She still hasn't flooded. Though she's moving everything upstairs just in case. She's alone with her kids right now but has helpful neighbors. She definitely feels fortunate.

Southwest just announced all flights from HOU are cancelled through Saturday noon, and it looks like select flights are also cancelling Saturday afternoon as well (I'm guessing staffing won't be at 100% for quite a while).

OP, I'd double check with your airline if you can catch a flight through another airport - if you can get there. Southwest is offering rebookings through Austin, Dallas, Corpus Christi, or San Antonio.

Above all, stay safe!!
