Cancellations, booking, & Halloween party reservations

I have questions about cancellations. I am having a hard time getting some of the reservations we want. Since some are holding reservations and dropping the day before for whatever reason I am hoping to pick up some the day before. I am keeping my backup so we are not left with nothing if a reservation doesn’t drop. What happens if I have less than 24 hours when I find something? For example, say I find a dinner at Hollywood & Vine for 5:00 Wednesday and book it the day before on Tuesday night at 7:00. If I have a 5:30 reservation for Sci-Fi that Wednesday that I want to drop and replace with the Hollywood & Vine reservation will I have to pay the $10 per person fee since it would be less than 24 hours? I hope that makes sense.

My other question is about dining reservations the night of the Halloween party. We plan to spend two days in Magic Kingdom. The first day we are attending the Halloween party but the second day we will not be. I know the park closes at 6:00 if you do not have party tickets and the party then starts at 7:00. Would I be able to get reservations and eat at The Crystal Palace at 6:00 then just leave straight after?

You technically have until midnight to cancel a reservation, but you're supposed to call after a certain time.

As long as your reservation is before 6pm, you'll have no problems. If it's after 6, but before 615, check in 20 minutes early and hang out by the host stand. But yes you'll have to leave right after
