In the December thread there is some discussion as to why posts giving thanks and letting people know the reservations was snatched up are being deleted. I am not a moderator or anything, but here is why those posts SHOULD be deleted.
Hundreds of people subscribe to those threads so that when a post is made they get an email. However, there is a limitation in the system such that subequent posts are not emailed until you have re-visited the forum. This is why the idea that thanking people and saying you got a cancellation really isn't helping anyone. Here is an example:
1. Person cancels Le Cellier. I get an email
2. I read the email and immediately call Disney (or get online and try to get it)
3. Meanwhile, someone has posted that they grabbed it and says thanks. I never get this email because my first stop is not the forum - it's Disney's web site! My time is wasted anyway.
4. I fail to get my reservation and then go to the forum where I see that another DISer got it. Ah well, good for them.
Now, here's where those thanks can really sort of suck. If a person cancels something I have no interest in I will still get the email. And I will have to go to the forums to reset the email alert functionality. And then 10 minutes later I get an email that someone got that reservation. So I have to go back to the forum to reset the email alert again. So, ironically, the thanks and update that the reservation was taken is actually what is wasting time!
This isn't a hufe deal by any stretch, but just food (hurr hurr) for thought!
