We are scheduled to arrive in Disney in 6 days and DH broke his foot this morning. Package is paid for. If we go during his only other vacation this year in July instead, how much money do we lose?

Call and see if you can postpone the trip. If you explain the situation, you likely will not lose any money, the entire balance of what you've paid will be applied to your new vacation. The prices will likely be higher because you'll be in high season, but you could down-grade your resort or stay fewer days.

When I was trying to decide on trip insurance I asked the CM what happens if I can't come when we booked and we have to reschedule and she said there were no penalties for that just for canceling.

Since you aren't canceling just changing dates and especially because of the reason you should have no problem. We've done this a couple of times.

Disney will charge a $50 change fee if your price goes down by moving the dates. If it stays the same or goes up (even by a dollar) then they waive the fee.

Years ago a week before our trip we had a death in the family and I called Disney and they simply moved the date. It was very pain free to do.

I cannot remember if they charged us a fee or not.

Within 45 days of a PACKAGE start, you may be charged a change fee for each person on the reservation. A ROOM ONLY reservation booked online I believe is the same, while a ROOM ONLY booked on the phone can be modified up to 5 days out with no penalty. If the modification results in a higher price, then there will be no penalty, but if the price goes down, the penalty can be applied. Now a given CM may have some ability to work with you based on the situation, but that is the policy.

Not for each person - just a change fee for the package itself. But as others have said, if you simply reschedule your trip so that you're paying the same or more, there shoudn't be a change fee.

Take a few minutes to think about it, how bad is the break. Last year we were scheduled to go to Disneyland and I broke my foot. We went back and forth to go or to stay home. We rescheduled until cast came off, about a week and a half, which. The cast came off in morning and we left next day. Pros and con, my foot was still sore, and I had to go for ice a few times. But I did walk okay. If we had went I would have had to be in w/c, but in the end I had to rent one anyway, because my foot was still healing.

So in six days, you are definately loOking at a w/c, and some swelling. In two months, you may still be looking at a w/c and foot will be painful, because it will just be out of cast.

I think your major factor is going to be if you have toddlers, because the foot itself is not really a huge problem, but if you have toddlers and you need two adults than it is a problem.

If I had to do it again, personally I would have just went on the original days. But of course mine was after my cast was on for a few weeks, not just a few days. Either way, it was hard, and my foot was in pain. Actually we arrive on Wednesday night at wdw, and it has been since last sept, and my ankle is still swollen and in pain at time, so I have been walking for an hour a day, for over 6 weeks, just in the hope it will be okay all day walking.

If it helps with the $50 fee, I arrive later this week and Saturday had to call and cancel one of the members of my party. Since the package price went down nearly $400, I expected the $50 fee. I was happily surprised to find out they did not charge one :). Instead they just gave me a credit to my room for that amount. So I can charge things to the room and it will first come out of that credit.

Thanks for the replies... We still don't know if we're going :/ DH doesn't see the orthopedic surgeon until Wednesday afternoon. We're supposed to leave Thursday afternoon for the airport. Taking care of a baby and DH and trying to clean, run errands, and pack for the trip is less than fun. It doesn't help that I'm whining about it either lol.

Not sure if we want to go in July instead, we'd only be able to go 3-4 days unless we canceled baby boys birthday party (not happening) and another Day trip we had planned. I guess worst case scenario we just lose what we spent on airfare and $200. Lesson learned GET TRIP INSURANCE!

I am also leaving Thursday afternoon, from about 1050 miles north of WDW :wave2:

I hope it works out for you!

We're (hopefully) flying out of BWI on Friday morning. You must not be too far away from us.

Thanks! Have a great trip!

So sorry for your situation! :grouphug: I hope the foot mends quickly!

...Call Disney and perhaps they can tell you what all your options are! If water activities were not going to be a huge part of your trip, perhaps you should borrow a wheelchair and go!...nothing to take your mind off like playing at Disney, and there is no better place to have to be in a wheelchair! Also, if he still needs the chair in July, I'd rather push a chair when it is not so hot!:flower3:

Enjoy yourself whenever you go!
