Cancellation policy?

What is the cancellation policy for DVC bookings? Is it different from the usual 6 days for WDW hotel ressies?

If you cancel 31 days or more prior to check in, your points go back into your account. If you cancel between 30 days and 1 day prior to check in, your points go into "holding". Holding points cannot be banked and can only be used to book 60 days or less in advance. If you cancel on or after your check-in day, all of the points are forfeited.

What would happen if say, you had booked a studio, canceled a couple days before, the points go into holding and then you pick a time within the 60 day limit and there are no studios available?

Then you could not use those holding points at that time. If you can not use them by the end of your use year, you would lose them.

Are you a member or a potential renter of points? If you are not a member, your cancellation policy would be whatever the member you are renting from tells you. If you are a member, it's what the PPs stated. But, if the reservation is close to the end of your use year, you might totally lose all those points. And if you borrowed points from the next year, you will have lost them, too, since they cannot be returned to the next use year.
