DH is having his left kidney removed due to a tumor he found out about yesterday.
What is the DVC cancellation policy in this situation? Can I wait till he (hopefully) gets out of surgery to see how he's doing?
DS13 & I are due to leave for WDW Aug 13th. DHs surgery will be within the 1st 2wks of August. Waiting to have a catscan of his chest to make sure the cancer hasnt spread and doc wants him to donate to himself 2 vials of blood to use during surgery.

You might want to call MS and ask- they have often been generous with such circumstances. In this case, since your arrival is still more than 31 days away, you might see about adding the travel insurance rather than depending on DVC.

You might even want to consider cancelling outright tomorrow before reaching the 30 day mark to plan to be with your husband during his recovery.

Prayers and kind thoughts for your DH.

Be sure to ask about pre-exisiting conditions before you buy insurance. Since your husband is already under medical care, it may not be covered.

Best wishes.

DebbieB, very good point! It may seem obvious but sometimes the obvious is overlooked. I trip on the same rise in my driveway 3 times a week! :)
newholidayx2, good luck on DVC plans and most importantly blessings on your DH .

My prayers and best wishes go out to your family.

First off, sorry about your DH, I'm sure it's a terrible shock to both of you. I'm sure his Dr.'s will do everything for him.

As far as vacation, there are a couple of ways to do this.

I agree call first and find out exactly what your options are:
once you know that you can:

1) Leave as is, and hope you'll be able to go ahead as planned. This I think is the most risky and it wouldn't be my choice.

2) Cancel now before the 30 day mark so there is no penalty and then if possible and it does work out that you can go, I'd call MS and rebook. This time of the year, I doubt you'd have any problems with DVC rooms as long as you're open to DVC hotels. I've never had a problem getting OKWest even at the most busy times of the year using the wait list. If you do do this, I would also ask the DVC exactly how booked up there are now to see if there is a major problem with trying to do it this way.

3) Assuming the surgery does get scheduled early enough and your DH starts to recover with no complications (hopefully that will be the case) is there any way if you do go, you could have him join you. He wouldn't have to do the parks if he wasn't up to it and let's face it, you can rest and relax just as good in a DVC room as a bedroom at home (again assuming no complications and the Dr. says OK).

If it was me, I'd cancel and then work around rebooking if it worked out and I'd also take my DH with me if at all possible.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

If it were me, I would cancel with MS tomorrow and postpone the trip until you find out more about your husband's condition. I wish you and your husband best wishes.

I wonder if, under these circumstances, MS would consider allowing you to keep the ressie for now and make a notation that says you will be allowed to cancel later with no penalty and with points going back to current use year. I would like to think that there would be a way for the DVC family to support its members by making an exception in a case like this.

I'd don't have any advise, just wanted to send warm wishes :goodvibes and hope that everything turns out ok :wizard:

What a terrible shock for all of you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I would hope that MS would help you make a decision that will be beneficial to you and ease, rather than increase, your stress.

Please let us know how things turn out.

First of all, prayers for a good outcome for your DH. If you are within your banking window or early in your use year, I think I would cancel the ressie and plan to go later. OOPS! I just noticed you are at the 31 day mark, so not sure about than answer.

Oh Barbara! :grouphug: Praying for you and your family!

I was in a similar situation in March. I wrote a letter to DVC explaining the situation, included documentation, and they very graciously returned my points to my next use year, instead of the holding account which I would not have been able to use. Best wishes to you and your huband.

I said a prayer for you and your family today. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your husband. You'll have to plan a trip after he recovers and then it will be truly special.
Lynne

Thoughts and prayers going out to you all. Hoping for a complete recovery :grouphug:

Thoughts and prayers are with you and your hubby at this time. Stay strong...this too shall pass.
