Cancellation- forfeit points

I may be out of touch so apologies if there are threads that address this. Holding a reservation in mid-January made with banked points that lapse in March. With covid-19 cases increasing again the probability of needing to cancel is also increasing. Since WDW is open I don't think DVC will let me push those points to the 2021 use year. Anyone else in this situation?

They are making no more exceptions for points now they resorts are open above and beyond what was done.

The only change I see coming is some extensions for VGC owners now that they have an open date.

I was on the phone with member services this morning. They are not making any concessions. I just canceled our Aulani trip for Christmas week and have to deal with not only my 2019 points expiring but also my 2020 points as well. I had planned to use them in 2020 so they weren't banked into 2021. They all now expire March 1 of 2021.

I definitely sympathize. We are on the fence about our planned Kauai trip in late December/early January, but the rate COVID is going, we think we are going to end up canceling. The second week was via another points system and those don't expire until until the end of 2021, and can be banked into 2022. But, the first week is a 2020 floating week that will probably have to be deposited to RCI. We already deposited our other 2020 Kauai week just today.

Or it could just be suspicious test results and cases aren't really increasing ie Elon Musk. Go and enjoy yourself. Unless someone in your party has a medical condition that you are concerned about.

It has been talked a lot about how inaccurate the tests are. People test positive one day, negative the next.

The Elon case was with a rapid test instead of the more traditional nasal swab method. A lot of the issues seem to be originating from the more rapid but less accurate tests.

Thanks for the replies. Now that I've figured out what I'm doing it looks like I may be at WDW for maybe 20 days over three trips. Is any one else doing similar? Also, without being able to get an AP I'll be paying a substantial premium for park admission based on current ticketing.

Are you driving or flying? Some people just do resort-only trips, instead of going to the parks. If it's a short drive and it's worth it, you can do that. Or just let the points lapse.

Flying from Chicago. Like you mentioned, we'll probably do more resort time and less park time.

Don’t forget to check out USO! They have awesome ticket deals right now!

If these are points banked, from a previous use-year? NO - can't bank points forward, more that one use year :(.

DW & I got nailed with this RE APR 2019 points. As we were going to loose them anyway, and did NOT want to engage in "Renting" right now? We did something odd....

We DONATED what would have been "robbed points" to dear friends within driving distance of WDW. Effectively cost us nothing, made a wonderful family happy, and did NOT let Disney steal the points for their profit :). We all won :).

Rather than lose, I would deposit into RCI. Do so before January 15, if you have March UY as I do.

If you cannot use them think about donating them to Make A Wish foundation so they can be used to make a sick kid's dreams come true.
