No, the is no financial penalty for cancelling or changing a ressie. For reservations cancelled at least 31 days out, the points return to the current use year, and fall into the overall rules regarding banking for that use year. For ressies cancelled 30 days to 1 day out, the points go into a holding account. Holding account points can be used for reservations booked 60 days or less prior to arrival, the expire at the end of the use year and can not be banked.
A reservation cancelled on the day of scheduled arrival loses the points, they are considered "spent" on the first day of the ressie.
Points originally booked for non-
DVC stays (Disney collection, cruises, etc) go into reservation status, and can only be used for similar stays...not Interval International or DVC stays.
Points used for Interval International booking remain committed to Interval vacations, based upon availability.
