canceling DDP & ADRS but keeping CRT

For the longest time I went back and forth between the QSDP, DDP and paying OOP.

Ultimately I decided that we'd go with the DDP since I wanted to do a lot of character meals (and we'll have 2 kids between the ages of 3 & 9, so we figured we'd save a lot)

However, DH & I since decided that we don't think that character meals would really be a great fit for our family, because of our two youngest and their personalities etc and we're okay with meeting characters in the park so we're just going to mainly do CS meal and pay OOP - we're just not big eaters and my soon-to-be 3 year old still shares with me (he prefers more grown-up food)

Anyway....

The only ADR that I'm keeping is for CRT, which is on my daughter's actual Birthday and is one of the main reasons we're going to WDW because of her dream to eat in the castle on her birthday. I currently have it reserved with a CC guarantee and I successfully reserved it online by entering our hotel reservation number (it didn't charge my credit card at the time)

I'm really paranoid about when I call to remove the DDP from our reservation. Almost every time I speak to a cm they also ask me if I have any dining questions, as well, of if I need help with dining.

I'm so nervous that they'll just cancel it on me. I'd be okay with taking the payment now upfront, but I just don't want to end up losing it in case they cancel it and it's gone before they rebook it, and I don't want the time to change either.

Any experience with this from anyone else??

I don't have any experience with this (we usually don't do the DDP), but this is what I would do:

Call dining first and tell them that you want to pay for CRT instead of using DDP credits (I don't think your reservation number will change).

Watch your credit card statement to make sure it is charged (you will have to pay for it now).

Then call reservations and tell them you want to cancel the DDP but do not want to cancel any of your ADRs.

Confirm online after the phone call that your ADR is intact.

Someone else may have some expereince that contradicts my idea - if so, go with them! :goodvibes

Short answer first: when you get to CRT, let your server know you'll be paying OOP. Many people originally say they'll be using dining credits then change their minds.

When you call CRO to cancel the dining plan, they'll ask if you need help with dining because there's no automatic cancellation of dining reservations when you cancel a vacation or the dining plan. Just tell them that you're keeping all of your dining reservations. The CM would have to transfer you to the dining line because CRO doesn't take care of dining reservations. Later, if there are any you want to cancel, you can do it yourself online.
