Canceling cruise?

Great! I'm heavily considering a change of vacation plans. My son has started having seizures and the thought of going on a trip where I can not easily communicate back and forth to know he's ok isn't really going to work out for me now. I was already nervous leaving my kids before but now I just don't think I have it in me. Thanks for the info. :)

Since it's so far out and this is a new situation, you could wait until just before final payment is due to make this decision. It doesn't have to be made now.

I mean to be comforting, that you don't have to change everything at this exact moment. I don't mean to seem like I'm urging you to go.

I would also caution canceling until you find out more information on his seizures if they have just started. Depending on the information you receive later, you can make a better decision.

My sister's neurologist when she had her massive seizures said that everyone is a candidate for a seizure, it is just the threshold that has to be hit for them to occur. Some may have lifelong issues and others might have one and never again. I have met all of the various types.

Correct. I just cancelled for February because I was approaching my PIF date and we decided to do a different trip this year.

You can also postpone cruises. I've moved my last OBB twice now, and scheduled another cruise since then. You just call and rearrange to a later date. If that doesn't work as you get closer then move it again.

Now that's good advice. You get all of your money back if you cancel before then, so there is no rush unless you need the cash back now.

A consideration for communication, we found cellular service to be excellent and really not that expensive for a few calls. It's not same as being with him, of course--that's what is important in life, and you might not be very happy cruising with worries about his health. But, the advice that you can "wait and see" without any expense makes sense.

Thanks all. He has lots of tests coming up in December and January and once we get the results, we can make a better decision. This was intended to be our first trip without the kids ever (and the oldest will be eleven so we are long overdue for some alone time!) but this seizure thing has thrown me. He's only had one major one but he's had some other things happen that might be smaller seizures. We will know more when he has his 24 hour EEG in a few weeks. Depending on the results, we may switch to sticking to WDW where getting home would at least be a little easier and contact wouldn't be as much an issue. I need to read up more on using the phone when we are on the ship. I plan to pay for enough wi-fi to at least email my mom each night to see how the kids are doing. I'm probably overreacting completely but the stress of worrying about him is making me less rational than I'd like!

Oh, without the kids? I can see being stressed about that. I was thinking the kids were going, too. Definitely take your time and decide, but you're right about that being potentially nerve-wracking instead of relaxing! Like I said, I just cancelled my cruise five days before PIF was due and it went just fine. So, know that the option is there!
