Allow me to vent...

I love TV. So for me to cancel cable and live with just Netflix was scary! But I bit the bullet and did it late summer. This saves me about $100 a month which I thought I could put towards other bills and/or save (imagine that). YAY!

Fast forward to Monday night. I was doing laundry and heard a gurgling in my kitchen sink, bathroom sink and *gasp* toilet when the washer was draining. What in the BLEEEP?! I called the septic pumpers on Tuesday morning early and they came at 1:00 p.m. to pump the tank and, yup, you guessed it ... a blockage. And why was it blocked?! Because the entire line from inside of the house to the tank was broken in a few places. Yup, they had to dig up the works and replace the pipe through the wall and to the tank. Argh - there goes the money I was saving by not having cable.

So does this happen to everyone? When you come into a little money or strive to save it, that something comes along to suck it up? BAH!

That isn't the way I look at it. I am thankful I gave up X, so that I now have a surplus and can pay for Y without needing to pull out the credit card.

Always... Within a two week span our car quit 1000 dollars to fix, our furnace quit 4000 more and our water heater broke another 1000 gone.

Meeee!!!! Two weeks ago I re-fi'd the house so I could get the electrical re-done and a ton of other stuff to start the reno's on the attic. Wouldn't you know it -- sewer pipe in the basement broke, and plumbing wasn't even on the list.

2 steps forward and 1 step back.

Absolutely 100% yes!

I've actually come to believe that I have a black cloud following me everywhere. :headache:

It always seems to be that way, but at least you had been saving that $100 a month in a "house emergency fund" right??.................P

When it rains it pours and when all seems well it lightenings. Story of my life.

Hang in there. :goodvibes

And without fail, every time I am going on vacation, it could be 1 day BAM something happens....

Oh gosh, wouldn't you know it! Luckily you had the money saved from canceling cable, but I wish it hadn't happened at all. Blech. But I'm gonna focus on "At least this isn't going to put you further into a debt hole." Hopefully, once that gets paid off, the savings will start adding up again and you can do a nice vacay with it!

Yes, there is always something. These are what I remember right now. Thank God for our emergency fund!!

A few months ago, it was a new roof because of hail damage (insurance paid for this one).

June - We had to replace both furnace and AC ($7000) a week before our annual vacation (in July) which is usually not cheap.

August - DH got in an accident and had to fix the car.
The fridge leaked and damaged some wood flooring in the kitchen. We have an area rug on top until we replace the wood!!

September - The hot water heater ($1200). It actually flooded part of the basement.

October - A new fridge ($500) and a new toilet/fan ($300) for our vacation condo.

November - A day before Thanksgiving, we were told that our condo needs a new furnace/AC ($5000) and a new electrical box (not going to happen).

December - We are waiting for it. It is only the 5th!!!

Dh's mom gave us a big Christmas check. We were so excited- I was finally able to buy tires, we bought some new furniture from the pit at Bob's, and we were going to pay some bills and maybe fix our shower in the hall bath, which has been out of service for three years. And then my transmission died. Ford wants $4200.

I told DH I can't figure it out - does the universe sense when we have a few extra pennies and hit us just when we might get a little ahead, or are we incredibly blessed that these things only happen when we have extra money? I prefer the latter

Happened to me this week as well! Bought the wife a BIG Christmas gift and next day had a BIG vet bill for the dog.

I'm always saying I just can't get ahead...:(

yes!:thumbsup2 think of the $$ you were able to put away,so that when this happened, it was something you could deal with financially....that's the reason WHY you were saving in the first place!

And the $100 per month savings is an ongoing event, so hopefully you will have a calmer stretch and be able to accumulate more of the cable savings.
