Cancel trip... or go with heavy hearts.

I think it's a really personal decision, one only you and your daughter can make but my instinct is to go.

Several years ago now my grandfather, who I was very close to, passed away shortly before my honeymoon. Cancelling the trip wouldn't have been practical anyway but I'm glad we went. We had a great trip and it was actually very special to me knowing how much he loved to travel. He would have wanted me to go.

I hope you decide to go. Your pup would want you to be happy, right? I know mine always feel better when I feel better. You already made one decision that helped your pet even tho it was super difficult...and this is sorta the same. Staying home sad won't change anything, but going might. You can find things that you'll keep in memories forever. Remembering back on how hard it was to go but how much fun you had and how healing it was will be a special kind of memory.

Obviously no one can make this call for you guys, but I hope you go. I really do. Also, I'd try to take a pic along with. Maybe get Pluto to sign it?

I'm sorrry. Been through the same thing here and I know it's extremely difficult. Only you can decide if you should go or not but I think I'd go.

I'm truly overwhelmed by all of your kind and compassionate responses. I'm especially touched by the personal stories you've shared, and I want to thank everyone who responded - you will never know how helpful you've been. We've decided to go. We're taking a lot of your suggestions to heart and we'll be doing some new things this trip, including making a visit to the kennel. We're going to look for small ways to spread some pixie dust to strangers, in the hopes that someone else's happiness will ease our grief.

Thank you so much, every single one of you. I've always enjoyed reading the DIS even though I don't post very often, and I knew it was a special community - I just didn't realize how special until now.

I'm a goob but I teared up reading that you decided to go. I truely wish you an amazing trip and I hope that giving some pixie dust will help heal.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am. We lost our Great Pyrenees, Molly, in August. I'm glad you decided to go. For me, the quiet times were the worst for many weeks: riding in the car alone, laying down to sleep at night, being in the shower. I felt better if I was with other people and had some distractions. It doesn't mean that you love them any less, it's just the brain/heart's way of helping some to cope.

I hope that y'all have a fantastic trip! May God give you peace and healing.....

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I know there are people who don't understand, but for us, our animals are part of our family and dearly loved.

One time I came home to find 2 dogs hovering over the lifeless body of my 12 year old cat (they had killed him). I was so upset and grief stricken, it actually caused me to go into labor. I had my son the next day. And it took a long time to get over the loss, even with the joy of a new baby.

I'm glad you decided to go on your vacation. I hope y'all have a wonderful time.

Now, I'm more excited for your trip than I am for my own, later this year!

Thanks for the update!

I am so glad that you decided to go on your trip. And I am also so sorry for your loss. I think spreading love always makes us feel better, and it is a wonderful way for you to honor the loyalty and love your dog gave to you. I hope you have a very blessed trip.
