Cancel trip or change dates?

Something came up and I have to postpone the trip with my sister, planned for Sept 13. It was a 4 night package, BWI club level, park hopper, genie plus... with MNSSHP tickets.

I realize I'm out the money for the MNSSHP tickets, but as for the rest of the package, should we move the dates or just cancel altogether? I believe if I cancel now I'll get the $200 deposit back, but if I wait much longer I think I'll lose it. However, I wouldn't mind just walking the dates ahead, too.

Thoughts on what to do?

You will be able to use the value of the mnsshp towards tickets in the future. We had to cancel last minute last year and used last years value to purchase this years tickets.

One thing to keep in mind... I'm pretty sure if you move dates, the Genie+ will remain since you pre-bought it. If you cancel and rebook, you would not be able to buy it for the length of stay and would have to get it one day at a time assuming it wasn't sold out (don't think it's happened yet, but who knows what their numbers are and what others will be doing when your new dates are). It may be a minor thing, but if having it for sure and without staying up to get it or waking up "early" to get it, moving the dates would be better.

(Note: I put early in quotes because it's relative. I was absent the day sleep in genes were handed out, and I regularly naturally wake up between 5:30 and 6, so being up at 7 is not early to me.)

It will not. We also moved our dates from September and the agent on the phone thought we would be able to keep our genie + but we couldn’t. She had to double check with a supervisor when it didn’t work for her and came back and said that we couldn’t actually keep it. She was more upset about it than I was.

Gotcha. That’s sad that they won’t move something you paid for. Did they refund it?

It’s really just your personal preference. If you know when you’ll be going and think you’d be rebooking soon I would just move it. If not I would cancel and wait until I had a better idea of my plan.

They did. I wasn’t expecting to be able to keep it but it definitely stunk to lose it since I’ll be the one waking up at 12am to buy it, if it’s something that does end up selling out. 🙄

I had to change two reservations and after 40 minutes on the phone I was able to retain my Genie+ on both of them. It may depend on who you talk to. The cast member did have to go to a manager for approval but she made it happen. This was about two weeks ago.

That's interesting. Because I know she talked with a manager. Do you mind me asking when you moved the trip too? Is it within 2022?

I actually moved them both one week earlier rather than later. The reservations were in effect cancelled and new ones made after I was unable to make the changes online. Maybe I sounded desperate and they were feeling generous. :D

The reservations are for November 23rd this year.

That could be why. We moved from this September to September 2023 (😢).

Hope you have a great time! The weather should be beautiful!
