Just a question. Our 7 month window is approaching to change a ressie we have at our home resort. Would it be a quicker process to cancel our original reservation before we try to book another? Do they have to cancel the old one to free up points to book a new one? I'd hate to lose a new ressie during the time it would take MS to cancel an old ressie.
Does this make sense?
Thanks!!

most of the time, cancel-then-rebook is the process used. few DVCers have the pts to hold 2 separate reservations at the same time, which would be the only alternative.

most of the time, there is no issue - whether they place a hold on the available room or whatever, they cancel and book the new room immediately. there have been reports of losing the new room after canceling the old one...but they are pretty rare.

MS just did this for me last week. Switched from AKV to Beach club with no issues.

We did this, this morning. JUst told them what we wanted to do. The actual process took only a couple of minutes. I guess it's possible to have that happen.

I think the most important thing is to call as close to 9 am as possible.

Sorry to hijack the thread but while on this subject:

I'm planning to do the same thing for a trip we are making next October, but the new room will actually be 13 fewer points then the original room. If I borrow 37 points from 2010 use year to book the room at AKV, then get the ressie at BWV, can the 13 points be put back in my account and banked or do I lose them if they aren't used?

You will lose them if they aren't used. Perhaps you could book all but the first/last night at AKV, so you won't have to borrow more than the BWV reservation will take. Then, if the BWV reservation doesn't come through you could add the last night at AKV. AKV is going to be pretty big so I think you'd be fine doing it that way and booking the first/last night at the 7-month window if necessary.
