We have a flight booked on SW on Dec. 28th, but now we are thinking of driving to WDW. I'm wondering how close to the 28th I could cancel or change that flight? We want to watch the weather before we make the decision. Thanks.

Pretty sure I read a few days ago that you can change/ cancel your flight up until a few hours before departure. Check the SW website for all the rules/restrictions.

Unless they are fully refundable fares, you will be issued a credit toward another flight within one year of your original BOOKING date.

If they were booked on points, all points will go back into your account.

From their website :

If you are not planning to travel on any portion of your itinerary, please cancel or change your reservation at least 10 minutes prior to scheduled departure of the flight. Customers who fail to cancel or change their reservations at least 10 minutes prior to scheduled departure or fail to board their flight(s) on any Wanna Get Away or DING! fare segment are subject to our No Show Policy. Additionally, the entire reservation including any remaining flights on the ticketed itinerary will also be cancelled and all funds from the “No Show” reservation will be forfeited and may not be used or applied toward future ticket purchases. Reservations booked using Rewards points, Companion passes, and Reward seats are not included in this policy.

Subbing. We have a one way booked for March. However, rates for weekends to return are crazy. Decided to cancel flight and try auto train. At least we will have our car

Canceling a SWA flight must be done no later than 10 minutes before the flight departs.

You could have flown down and then rented a car to come home. Or try flying home from Tampa which is often times cheaper than MCO and it only adds an extra 40 minutes to the commute to an airport. And Tampa is a much quieter airport.

If you cancel your flight, make sure you keep your cancellation number handy somewhere so you can easily retrieve it for a future trip. I've done it twice and had such a hard time trying to find it on the site since they don't have a link readily available for you to view your cancellation. SW just seems to be so much more accommodating than other airlines - I wonder why anyone flies anything else. Plus, my SIL got to see Snoop Dog on a flight out of LA once.

I have canceled and moved SW flights same day many times...

A meeting ran late so I realized I would not make my 7:30 flight home. A work event went well and we were done a day early so I moved up the flight...

Once I arrived at work with bags packed to be told a contract issue shut down all charging on that account until the customer fixes the issue... so I'm not flying out.

All of these were on SW and in all cases were very easy to change. Once it caused my boarding passes to get a bit messed up but they solved that quickly at the airport.

In addition if there is anticipated bad weather in your area you may be able to move your flight without any of the penalties talked about above. SW allows this when they have reasons to believe an airport will be heavily impacted.
