Cancel or not?

Wishing you luck, hopefully you will be haing the op by now

Hi all, home now all done, thanks for all the well wishes. Went under around 9am and next thing I knew it was 2pm and full of morphine! Was in surgery for over 3 hours all for a sodding Dad's race at a 5 year olds sports day lol

Arm is just bandaged and apparently won't hurt for more than a couple of days. Driving is probably out but consultant saw no reason why I couldnt go so the decision is back with us again.

Peter at Caronthedrive is giving me a bell in a bit so we'll see what he says.

Well, I've still got to get insurance to cover it and permission from virgin to fly and the in-laws to agree to come and find the money somewhere and sort out the car and catch up on 5 lost work days etc etc

But pretty happy yeah lol

Very glad to hear your op went well :goodvibes

Hope you manage to get everything sorted out :thumbsup2

Take good care :goodvibes

Wonderful news. Please keep us informed as we so want all to go well. :-)

Things are looking good, DMIL has said she'll come for the full trip and DW thinks she can tackle the drive from the airport as we didn't get very far with car on the drive due to communication problems so far.

Spoke to insurer and paid a one off £34 to have existing condition covered. Tried to get through to Virgin but after 15 mins on hold gave up, will try again tomorrow. Have to notify them of cast and get best price possible for DMIL.

Stupidly went to work today and think I nearly broke myself, got the hot sweats at my desk, went to the toilets and put my head on my knees and woke up 20 mins later drenched in sweat. Gonna stay in bed tomorrow I think. Very lucky to be in the line of work where I can get away with that. Frequently work all evening for nothing so can be forgiven a bognap!

Hope you get some joy from Virgin, they've always been great for us. Take it easy, don't rush back to work, remember the anaesthetic will still be in your system, and the painkillers won't help either.

Sending you lots of pixie dust!

Good news!

Please tell your wife that driving will be just fine - as lots of other posters have said. It is of course a great worry but just take your time when you leave the airport to make sure you get it right and if you dont you just turn round and go the other way.

they drive much more slowly out there and I have always found drivers in general to be far more considerate than over here - nothing like the M25!!!

Hope you continue to mend and that the rest of your planning goes smoothly.... :goodvibes

Hope you are taking it easy today :goodvibes

Glad to hear your plans are coming together :thumbsup2

You have kind of 'inspired' me, if that is the right word, to give driving a go on our next trip. I am only talking about driving around the block but just give it a go so I know how I feel about it and then I would hopefully be prepared for an emergency...... Watch out Formosa Gardens :lmao:

Just a thought but a poster on here recommended a 'protectacast' for our DD's broken arm (I would also buy the applicator if there is a next time). It's been a godsend for bathtime, like a big rubber glove that keeps the cast dry. They are supposed to be 100% waterproof, we have only tried it in the bath but it worked perfectly, you would definately need assistance getting one/them on. Not sure if you would even be contemplating a dip in the pool but just thought i would mention it.....

Wishing you a very speedy recovery :goodvibes

Got a flight, unfortunately paid through the nose for a ticket at this late stage answering my own longstanding question, who the flip pays those prices on Virgin flights in the last month.

Answer: Desperate idiot with two broken arms!

Paid £1260 for PE out Economy back when DMIL will just be sleeping. Far too much but we've got a 4 bed villa and a large SUV already so she's only got flight and tickets to pay plus we'll sub a lot of it. All because of one stupid accident.

Virgin didn't mention splitting the cast after i said it was half arm below the elbow so that's good.

so pleased your sorted and are going:thumbsup2
Paul

Thanks Paul.

Peter at caronthedrive came through with a deal for me as well, I won't discuss the exact price as my circumstances were a bit special and they may not be indicative but he got us a mid size SUV with all the pick up drop off service they offer for almost the same as the 7 seat I'd already booked with Alamo. for the convenience of being collected at the airport and peace of mind for the mrs it's worth it. Plus they do a great price for carseats meaning we're not taking our own and I won't bother with DTD checkin which is another $50 saved.

Just park tickets for DMIL to get, can't decide whether to cancel seaworld tickets to fund some of her ticket as we're going to have to take it easier now.

just caught up with your news - so pleased to hear that your operation went well and that your holiday is going ahead

Glad you got car-on-the-drive to sort you out with a good deal.:thumbsup2 I know that I would feel more confident not having to drive from the airport. Really glad it's all coming together for you.:goodvibes

We use car on the drive and I can assure you the service is spot on and your dw will not look back once Peter has talked her through the controls glad you are still able to go xxx

Well, as everyone loves a soap opera and that's what my life has become I thought I'd provide another update.

Just spent three days in hospital after I got so weak I couldn't get out of bed. Turns out the painkillers brought my ulcer back which bled undetected for days and led to me being very anaemic and really low blood pressure! So 3 days later back home and wondering what the premium increase will be this time for travel insurance!

We're still going by the way.
